Our experience with Saatva Classic

Let me be very honest – it’s difficult to find fault with the Saatva Classic.

From its classic (yes, I went there) and streamlined construction to its Euro pillow top and chiropractor-approved combo of gel-infused memory foam and individually wrapped coils, the Saatva Classic is a force to be reckoned with.

For those of us wanting a mattress that’s safe, the Saatva Classic is fiberglass-free and even features its very own antimicrobial treatment called Guardin; which helps prevent the growth of mold, bacteria and mildew.

When it comes to comfort (which is, as we know, the most important thing when it comes to a mattress), the Saatva Classic performs amazingly well. So well in fact that I think I’m ready to commit to one mattress for the rest of my life (I’m exaggerating but you get my drift).

But like I always say, there’s no such thing as a perfect mattress and that definitely applies to the Saatva Classic – it can be a little expensive for starters – but it sure does come close.

Firmness

Saatva classic firmness guide

The Saatva Classic mattress comes in three different firmness options: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm and Firm.

Plush Soft, as its name suggests, is definitely plush and soft (duh) and sits on a 4 on the mattress firmness scale. If you’re a strict side sleeper, this firmness option is for you.

The Luxury Firm option is around a 5 on the mattress firmness scale and has a true medium feel. This option is suitable for all sleeper types from combination sleepers to stomach and back sleepers.

A 7 on the mattress firmness scale, the Firm option has less give and is best for strict back and stomach sleepers.

Being a hybrid, the Saatva Classic mattress can accommodate heavier-set individuals and provide them with the extra support they need.

Cooling Test

We rate the Saatva Classic a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

You’d think that for a mattress that does not necessarily have actively cooling materials, the Saatva Classic would not sleep as cool as it does – but it really, really does.

I’d be willing to bet that the triple combo of breathable organic cotton cover, gel-infused memory foam and pocketed coil unit are doing exactly what they’re supposed to do.

So if you’re a hot sleeper, you’ll be set and sorted.

Motion Transfer Test

We rate the Saatva Classic an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

When you think of thick spring coils the first thing that comes to mind isn’t really good motion isolation, but you’d be surprised.

Even with its thicker and heftier coil unit, the Saatva Classic isn’t as springy as it appears to be. I barely felt any motion transfer when I tried it out with a partner.

Edge Support Test

We rate the Saatva Classic a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

Ok, hear me out.

We rated the Saatva Classic a little lower when it comes to edge support but not for the reason you’d think – the edge support of the Saatva Classic is a little too good.

What it looks like when you sleep on the edge of the Saatva Classic

They overshot themselves a little on this one.

See, the Saatva Classic features edge coils which are raised a little higher, and I think they did it a little too high because when you sleep close to the edge the surface feels firm and not as comfortable. So make with that as you will.

One thing’s for sure though, you definitely won’t be rolling off the edge of the bed.

Pressure Relief Test

We rate the Saatva Classic a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to pressure relief and comfort.

We’re very impressed with the Saatva Classic

Definitely no surprises here.

The Saatva Classic is designed with comfort at the forefront and its combination of memory foam and innerspring coils work so well together that you get the best bits of both a memory foam mattress and an innerspring mattress.

You get pressure relief where you need it plus you get zoned support in all the right areas.

Construction

There are 5 layers to the Saatva Classic mattress. These layers come encased in a mattress cover that’s made from GOTS certified organic cotton that’s breathable and soft to the touch.

The surface of the mattress cover features a Euro pillow top that has lumbar zone quilting for added comfortability as well as support.

The comfort layer of the Saatva Classic is made up of a layer of CertiPUR-US certified gel-infused memory foam that offers pressure point relief while also helping promote proper spinal alignment.

Up to 884 (in the Queen size) individually wrapped coils that are made from 14.5-gauge recycled steel make up the Saatva Classic’s coil unit. The center third of the coil unit features firmer coils which helps provide extra responsive support.

High density foam rails make up the Saatva Classic’s edges which helps provide edge support.

The base of the mattress is made up of a dual coil design made from 13-gauge tempered steel that helps provide stability as well as durability for the entire mattress.

Durability

There’s no question of the Saatva Classic’s durability (or any other Saatva mattress for that matter).
