We sometimes (often?!) fall prey to the viral products that Instagrammers and TikTokers hawk, but more often than not they are forgotten soon enough, tucked away in a drawer or a closet never to be seen again. But apparently not the Moon Pod. But… is it really all that it’s cracked up to be? Let’s find out.

Our experience with Moon Pod Bean Bag Chair
We wanted to hate it. We really did.
Its price point really does not justify a sack (fiiine, stretchy fabric) filled with, well, beads. (Plus I was never one to follow the latest trends, no matter how viral).
But here I am, loving the super comfortable, body-hugging feel that the Moon Pod Bean Bag chair gives.
Unlike the traditional bean bag – or the beanbag chairs you know from your childhood – the Moon Pod bean bag touts itself as a zero-gravity bean bag which in layspeak means that (supposedly) the Moon Pod mimics the weightless feeling that one gets when they’re in space or in a place with no gravitational pull thereby putting no pressure on the joints.
Think, a zero-gravity bed but a bean bag. Not quite though, but very, very close.
Here’s the full lowdown.

Comfort test
Our comfort rating for the Moon Pod Bean Bag chair is a 6/5. You read that right.
There’s three ways you can use the Moon Pod (well, with the add-ons but we’ll get to that a little later): as a chair, a recliner or, as Moon Pod likes to call it, a nap pod (they really like their pods, huh).
I’d say, using the Moon Pod Bean Bag chair as a recliner is the comfiest out of all three but here’s the thing: all three ways are infuriatingly pretty comfy.
To use the Moon Pod as a recliner, you would need the accompanying Lunar Lift (an ottoman/foot rest) and Crescent (a neck pillow on steroids) – all filled with the same high-density beads the Moon Pod Bean Bag chair.
With these add-ons, the Moon Pod turns into more than just a chair, it becomes both a bed and a recliner. But here’s a tiny, little caveat – these add-ons are added costs.
Back to comfort. Using the Moon Pod as a recliner is my favorite. That sensation between a sitting position and a lying position really mimics an almost true weightless feeling. By the way, this is the best position to watch movies.
As a chair, you’re in a more upright position yet unlike say, an office chair, you’d still be somewhat in a more relaxed sitting position.
As someone who works hunched over a laptop most of the time, the Moon Pod makes a surprisingly comfortable yet supportive working chair (or gaming chair, but strictly handheld gaming devices, mind you).
Using the Moon Pod as a bed is the most surprising of them all though.
Used by itself, your feet will be hanging off the end of the bean bag – this is a given, no matter how tall or short you may be. But used in conjunction with the Lunar Lift is a definite game changer.
Although not really the zero-gravity bed feel you might expect, using the Moon Pod as a bed feels even more comfortable and cozy than most sleeping bags and futons and that’s saying a lot.
If you’re short on space or if you often have guests, utilizing your Moon Pod as a guest bed is actually more cost-effective than buying an entirely new bed.
We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the Moon Pod Cloud Cover mattress topper here. If you like the feel of the bean bag chair their topper is also worth looking at (it has a similar level of coziness).
Our only complaint about the Moon Pod’s comfortability factor that it may be hard for those with limited mobility to get in and out of the Moon Pod Bean Bag chair.
Support test
We rate it a 4/5 for support.
When it comes to support, the Moon Pod Bean Bag chair provided worlds more support than traditional bean bags when used as a chair.
With regular bean bags, you don’t really get any back support whereas with the Moon Pod and the way it’s built, you get more than enough back support that even though you’re sitting for long periods of time, you’d still be comfortable.
When used as a recliner and a bed, Moon Pods high friction custom beads mold and contour the curves of your body providing – dare I even say it – pressure-relieving support much like memory foam.
Is it the best bean bag chair we’ve ever tried? Probably not. But it comes pretty close.
Does it really mimic flotation therapy?
One of the main selling points of Moon Pods is that they’re meant to feel like being in a sensory deprivation tank which helps alleviate pain, stress and anxiety levels. This is what’s called flotation therapy.
But does it really feel like it?
Yes and no.
I’d say being in and on the Moon Pod feels more like a cross between laying on a memory foam bed and a zero-gravity feel bed. Almost, but not quite.
Did it help alleviate any pain, anxiety and/or stress?
Not completely. But it did help with neck pain from being hunched over a laptop for hours (for me at least).
When it comes to the claim of mimicking flotation therapy, we give the Moon Pod a 3 out of 5.
Construction
The construction of the Moon Pod is pretty simple. Think of it as a bean bag chair reimagined.
An inner shell is filled with responsive high density beads that mold and conform to any body shape. It is malleable yet sturdy and supportive.
The original Moon Pod also comes with a removable cover that can be washed and dried. A washable cover is crucial, especially if you have kids or are prone to spills and accidents like I am.
Moon Pods come in a wide range of colors to choose from such as Moon Indigo, Cosmic Ash, Neptune Blue, Space Gray and Rose Quartz.
There’s no waiting time to use the Moon Pod. You can use the Moon Pod Bean Bag straight out of the box, you only need to slip on the outer cover.
No need to fill the Moon Pod either – it comes pre-filled.
Weighing only 12 lbs., it is very easy to move the Moon Pod around from living room to bedroom to game room or wherever you would want it to be.
The original Moon Pod can only fit one person but they now also offer the Super Moon Pod which can comfortably fit two people. (Obviously the Super Moon Pod’s price tag also doubles).
Durability
For a beanbag chair, I found the Moon Pod to be pretty sturdy and made out of high quality materials.
The dual shell membrane protects the interiors and the filling of the Moon Pod from any tears or scratches, especially if you have pets who like to sharpen their claws on your furniture.

Evolution of the Moon Pod Bean Bag Chair and Previous Versions
Moon Pods came into existence through a Kickstarter campaign launched in 2018 by John Fiorentino, who also created the Gravity Blanket.
The campaign managed to raise $1,272,724 out of its $21,500 pledge goal.
The Moon Pod you see now and is available for purchase on the Moon Pod website is its one and only product. No iterations or versions have been made.
It’s that good right off the bat.
