You’ve been looking for the best mattress for your little one. There are tons of options at different price ranges, but it’s hard to tell which ones are truly worth it. The Max & Lily Cooling Comfort is one of the more popular options…but is it really a good choice for your child? Luckily I just had a chance to test it out for myself. Here are my honest thoughts.

Our experience with the Max & Lily Cooling Comfort Mattress

Let me preface this by saying that, yes, I am an adult and yes, this is a mattress for kids – I am fully aware of that.

This is also my cue to let you know that our rating system will be slightly different from our usual mattress reviews because, again, we are rating it based on what’s best for a growing child and not for an ailment-riddled stomach sleeping geriatric like me.

Now that we got that out of the way, the Max & Lily Cooling Comfort mattress is a mattress that I would recommend for those ages three to probably 10 (or 11 even).

Why?

The main comfort layer is made up of premium cooling gel-infused memory foam that conforms to any body shape. I found that it provides enough pressure relief and support, which is exactly what kids need.

Simple in its construction, the Max & Lily Cooling Comfort mattress is easy to set up and comes in the most common kids’ mattress sizes.

Firmness

Max and Lily Cooling Comfort mattress firmness guide

The Max & Lily Cooling Comfort mattress sits on a 5 on the mattress firmness scale, giving it a true medium feel.

This is perfect for all sleeper types.

On a kid’s mattress like the Cooling Comfort, added support like a coil unit would be nice… but it’s not really necessary since an all-foam mattress can provide more than enough support for any child, regardless of whether they sleep on their back, stomach or sides.

Cooling Test

We rate the Max & Lily Cooling Comfort an 8 when it comes to cooling.

True, the mattress features an all-foam construction which is notorious for heat-retention… but because it’s pretty thin, any retained heat won’t stay trapped within the mattress for long.

The memory foam layer is infused with a cooling gel, which contributes to the heat-wicking properties of this mattress.

Motion Transfer Test

We rate the Max & Lily Cooling Comfort mattress a 9 when it comes to motion isolation.

Testing motion transfer on the Max & Lily Cooling Comfort mattress

Let’s face it, kids don’t really need to share a bed (the purpose of you buying a mattress for your child is so they can have a big boy/big girl bed, right?) but in the event that they do, the Max & Lily Cooling Comfort mattress is a good choice because I barely felt any motion transfer when I tried it out.

Edge Support Test

We rate the Max & Lily Cooling Comfort mattress a 6 when it comes to edge support.

The mattress doesn’t contain reinforced edges, plus it’s pretty thin so edge support is pretty much non-existent.

But then again, kids don’t really take up too much room (since they’re so small) so edge support shouldn’t really be a big factor here.

Pressure Relief Test

We rate the Max & Lily Cooling Comfort mattress a 9.5 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

No surprises here – the memory foam comfort layer provides more than enough support and pressure point relief, while conforming to your child’s body shape and size.

The base layer also provides responsive support (this means it adjusts to your movement throughout the night).

Construction

The Max & Lily Cooling Comfort mattress is made up of three layers.

These layers come encased in a soft and breathable cotton cover that’s also hypoallergenic.

The comfort layer is made up of cooling gel-infused memory foam that provides pressure relief and compression just like traditional memory foam but without any of the sinkage.

Underneath that lies a transition layer that’s made up of proprietary foam that offers zoned support while also acting as a go-between for the top and bottom layers.

The base layer is made up of Dynamic base foam – a high density foam that provides extra support while also providing stability.

Unfortunately we did experience a tiny bit of off-gassing when we first unboxed the mattress.

Max & Lily recommends that you air the mattress out for the first 48 hours.

Durability

The Cooling Comfort, as with all other mattresses made by Max & Lily, is made with premium quality materials that will last a very long time, especially with proper care and maintenance.

Trial Period

Max & Lily doesn’t offer a trial period for any of their mattresses, but they do have a 30-day return policy.

Return Policy

Although Max & Lily does not really offer a trial period (as I’ve mentioned above), they do offer a 30-day window wherein you can return your mattress.

To initiate the return process, you need to fill out the return request form on the official Max & Lily website.

Their customer service team will then reach out to you to walk you through the next steps.

Max & Lily prefers that you return the item in its original packaging but if that is no longer possible, just make sure that the item is packaged properly to avoid any damages during transit.

Alternatively, you can also opt to receive store credit and if you do, you will not be charged for a restocking fee.

Similar to the Max & Lily, the Maxtrix Premium is also made up of memory foam that’s been infused with cooling gel to help. with heat retention.

I think this mattress does a great job with pressure relief as well.

If you prefer a hybrid mattress instead of an a-foam mattress, check out the Helix Kids mattress.

The Helix Kids mattress comes in both an all-foam version and a hybrid version.

Since you can get it with coils, I think this is a better option for teens who will need the added support for their growing bodies.

Where to buy Max & Lily Cooling Comfort Mattress

You can purchase the Max & Lily Cooling Comfort mattress on Amazon but the best place to buy it is from the official Max & Lily website.

I always recommend buying products directly from the manufacturer when possible. Buying direct ensures that you get full warranty protection and customer service support.

It doesn’t seem like a big deal…until you need it.

Conclusion

The Max & Lily Cooling Comfort is an excellent starter bed for younger kids. Based on my hands-on tests, I found that the memory foam does an excellent job of providing both comfort and support for kids under the age of 12.

Because it is an all-foam mattress though, I can’t recommend it for older kids (teens) since they need more support.

Another thing I like about Max and Lily is that you can also buy one of their frames to go with the mattress. It’s always easier when you can buy everything in one place, isn’t it?
