For a hybrid mattress, the Emma Hybrid Comfort mattress comes at a very affordable price point. We especially like its responsive support that’s also pressure relieving.

For its price, it features 7-zoned targeted support that is usually found in more expensive mattress brands. Sadly, no mattress is perfect and we found it slightly lacking in edge support.

Who should buy the Emma Hybrid Comfort Mattress

  • Heavier individuals
  • All sleeper types
  • Those who prefer a more responsive mattress surface
  • Hot sleepers
  • Couples

Firmness test

emma hybrid comfort firmness scale

While the Emma website states that the Hybrid Comfort mattress is a 5 on the mattress firmness scale (which is a medium), we found it to be more of a medium-firm, around a 6.5-7.

This makes it a suitable mattress for all sleeper types except for strict side sleepers who weigh very much less than average.

Lightweight side sleepers may find the Emma Hybrid Comfort to be a little too firm for their main pressure points.

Testing the firmness of the Emma Comfort Hybrid

Being a hybrid mattress, the Emma Hybrid Comfort is also suitable for heavier-set individuals.

Bear in mind though that if you are heavier than 250 lbs., you may find the Emma Hybrid Comfort to be more of a medium than a medium-firm because well, gravity.

Construction

There are 5 layers to the Emma Hybrid Comfort mattress.

They come encased in a breathable and moisture-wicking mattress cover that’s made of phase change material that feels cool to the touch. The bottom part of the cover also features an anti-slip design that helps your mattress stay firmly in place.

The first comfort layer is made up Airgocell foam – a proprietary foam that absorbs and releases excess body heat making the mattress a solid choice for extremely hot sleepers.

The second comfort layer is made up of a memory foam alternative that molds to the body’s shape and offers maximum pressure relief without ever making you feel as though you are being swallowed up by the bed.

The transition layer is made up of yet another proprietary foam that Emma calls their HRX foam. This firmer, denser foam layer helps provide extra support while also helping with proper spine alignment.

The coil system in the Emma Hybrid Comfort is made up of edge to edge individually wrapped spring coils that’s designed to provide targeted zoned support while also enhancing airflow adding to the mattress’ cooling capabilities.

The pocketed coils adapt to your spine no matter your preferred sleeping position.

The base layer is made up of high density polyfoam that helps hold all the top layers together while also providing the mattress with stability and durability.

All the foam layers used in the Emma Hybrid Comfort mattress are CertiPUR-US certified and are free from harmful chemicals and VOCs.

We did experience a tiny amount of off-gassing when we first unboxed the Emma Hybrid Comfort but the dissipated within 48 hours.

Cooling test

As you may already very well know by now, hybrid mattresses (due to their spring coil construction) perform pretty well when it comes to air circulation and the Emma Hybrid Comfort is no exception.

While Emma describes their Hybrid Comfort to be active cooling, I found that to be a little misleading – it’s more of a temperature neutral. As I’ve mentioned above, the Hybrid Comfort mattress won’t trap heat but it won’t be extremely cooling like mattresses that have active cooling capabilities in every layer.

Motion transfer test

When it comes to motion isolation, I found the Emma Hybrid Comfort mattress to work pretty well when I tried it out with a partner.

Although Emma says that there’s zero motion transfer with the Hybrid Comfort mattress, that’s not entirely true.

We still felt a tiny bit of movement when we tried the mattress out but not so much that you’d get woken up. This makes the Emma Hybrid Comfort a good choice for couples.

If there’s one thing we didn’t like about the Emma Hybrid Comfort, it’s the lack of good edge support.

For a hybrid mattress that features edge to edge pocket springs, we found ourselves slipping off the edge of the bed when we sat on it.

If you’re the type of sleeper who likes to sleep close to the edge of the bed, you may be better off with something like the Bear Hybrid mattress.

Durability

Due to its 5 layer construction and its high density base foam, I found the Emma Hybrid Comfort to be perfectly stable and durable.

It’s also made with high quality proprietary foam materials that we have found to stand the test of time.

History of the Hybrid Comfort: Why Did Emma Create it?

The Emma Hybrid Comfort is Emma’s premium hybrid mattress offering out of their current 3 mattress lineup.

Emma prides themselves in creating premium mattresses with high quality and proprietary materials which they do in all of their mattresses.
