Our experience with the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid Mattress
No surprise here – we liked the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid, a lot in fact. It was VERY comfortable to sleep on, even on the very first night we tried it.
Featuring 3 layers of comfort foam, we found that the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress offers ample pressure relief no matter what your preferred sleeping position may be.
The Ascension coil unit of the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress also did a good job of providing responsive support.
We also like the fact that the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress comes in three different firmness options to choose from.
Now here comes the hard part – although the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress wows us in almost every aspect when it comes to its performance, we have to question its durability and longevity purely because the industry standard when it comes to hybrid mattress coils is 800 up to 2000 per mattress, yet the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid has way below that number. Hence why we think its asking price is a little too high for its actual value.
Firmness Test
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress comes in three different firmness levels: soft, medium and firm.
Soft mattresses are best for those who sleep only on their sides since a softer mattress surface provides strict side sleepers with the pressure relief that they would need for their main pressure points.
Mattresses with a true medium feel straddle the line between soft and firm and can accommodate most sleeper types as well as combination sleepers.
Firm mattresses are best for strict back sleepers and stomach sleepers since softer mattresses would only cause them to sink which can throw off their spinal alignment leading to more issues in the long term.
Here’s some good news for those who are heavier-set: since the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress is, in fact, a hybrid, it can provide those who weigh well over 250 lbs. the extra support they need.
Cooling Test
We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid a 7 out 10 when it comes to cooling.
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress does not really contain any actively cooling materials.
But it also doesn’t really sleep hot since it does not contain any heat-retentive memory foam. You can, however, opt to have a cooling pillow top added for a fee.
Motion Isolation Test
We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid a 9 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
We did not experience any amount of motion transfer when we tried the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress out with a partner.
We think it’s an excellent choice for couples or those who share a bed with a large (or really active pet) pet.
Edge Support Test
We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid an 8 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress features larger edge coils that surround the perimeter of the mattress, providing extra edge support which in turn gives you more surface area to sleep on, especially if you’re the type of sleeper who likes sleeping close to the edge of the bed.
Pressure Relief/Comfort
We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid a 9 out of 10 when it comes to pressure relief/comfort.
As we’ve mentioned, sleeping on the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress – even from the get go – was extremely comfortable.
The combination of the mattress’ Ascension coil unit and comfort layers provided more than enough pressure relief for us.
Construction
There are 5 layers to the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress.
Instead of a traditional mattress cover that encases the whole mattress, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress has two different covers – one for their top and one for their base layer – which we’ll go into more detail on below.
The topmost layer is made up of a premium quilted top that resists body impressions. This also helps reduce premature mattress sag. This layer is breathable and moisture-wicking, which reduces heat retention.
In the firm version, the quilting is tightly woven.
The second layer is made up of supreme response comfort foam that feels like memory foam but is way more responsive, which means you get all the benefits of memory foam such as pressure relief and contouring BUT without any of the sinkage.
The transition layer is made up of proprietary foam called VariFlex that also provides deep compression while also acting as a transition to the mattress’ coil unit.
The coil unit of the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress is made up of 8-inch Ascension coils that are individually wrapped, which aids in motion isolation. This layer is also responsible for providing responsive and targeted support.
The base layer is made up of high density foam that helps hold all the top layers together for extra stability.
Durability
There’s no doubt that Brooklyn Bedding uses good quality materials.
That said, we do have to question their thought process behind including less spring coils than the industry standard, which can affect the longevity of a mattress.
Sizes
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress comes in seven standard mattress sizes and four other uncommon mattress sizes.
It measures 12.25 inches in thickness and is compatible with most bed bases, frames and foundations.

About Brooklyn Bedding
Contrary to its name, Brooklyn Bedding is not a New York based brand but is instead based in Phoenix, Arizona. It’s actually named after one of the founders’ middle child, Brooklyn.
Started by two brothers, Brooklyn Bedding began selling mattresses on Amazon but soon also began selling mattresses on their own website.
Aside from mattresses, Brooklyn Bedding also makes bedding such as pillows, blankets, duvets as well as bed bases and foundations.
