If you’re looking for a modern innerspring mattress that’s durable and supportive, go for the Saatva Classic.
It showed good results in all our performance tests except for the motion isolation category.

Saatva Classic performance
We gave the Saatva Classic the following firmness ratings: Plush Soft (4), Luxury Firm (6.5-7), and Firm (8).
Although each model has its own firmness level, we noticed the same bouncy innerspring feel from all three versions.
Most average-weight individuals choose the Luxury Firm version which has more of a medium feel, but you can opt for the Plush Soft or Firm depending on your needs.
That said, we do not recommend this mattress for side sleepers who prefer deep cushioning and pressure relief for their hips and shoulders.
The Saatva Classic got a 9.4 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
It was a bit too firm for me on my side, but I got amazing pressure relief while lying on my back. The combination of high-density memory foam and the coil system provided excellent lumbar support.
The Saatva Classic got an 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
This mattress sleeps temperature-neutral. It doesn’t have any active cooling materials but it does help promote air circulation through its pocketed coil unit.
The Saatva Classic got an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
We experienced a significant amount of cross-mattress motion transfer due to the bed’s extra-responsive coils. We do not recommend this mattress for those who don’t want to feel the movements of their partner.
The Saatva Classic got a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
I definitely felt well-supported while sleeping on the edge of the mattress. It’s definitely up there when it comes to solid edge support.
Alternate pick: Saatva HD
If you’re looking for a mattress that can support individuals who weigh up to 500 lbs., the Saatva HD is a really good alternative to the Saatva Classic.
It’s a luxury innerspring hybrid mattress and it’s one of the thickest beds in the entire online mattress space. At 15.5 inches tall, it’s made with heavy-duty foams and coils which make it resistant to sagging and perfect for plus-size individuals or couples.

Why it’s the overall best
The Bear Elite Hybrid is our top pick because it provides great pressure relief, helps with temperature regulation, offers sturdy support, AND is suitable for ALL sleeper types.
What more can you ask from a mattress?
As you may have noticed from its name, the Bear Elite Hybrid is a hybrid mattress which means it can suit heavier-set individuals.
It also comes in three firmness options to fit different individuals.
It has a high 14-inch profile and it’s made with proprietary materials which include copper-infused memory foam and a unique cooling cover (more on this later).
If you’re unsure which mattress to get, go for the Bear Elite Hybrid.
It did very well in all our performance tests and it doesn’t have any major flaws aside from its high price and initial off-gassing. If you want to know more about it, read our comprehensive overview below.

Bear Elite Hybrid performance
The Elite Hybrid comes in three firmness levels and we rated the Soft a 4.5, the Medium a 6, and the Firm version a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
On this scale, 1 is cloud-like and 10 is a basically concrete.
The average mattress firmness is 6.5 out of 10 which is also known as medium-firm. Since the Bear Elite Hybrid’s firmness ranges from 4.5 to 7, it can accommodate a vast range of individuals regardless of their body type or sleeping position from strict side sleepers to back and stomach sleepers.
On top of that, the Bear Elite Hybrid has an 800 lb. weight capacity which also makes it a great option for plus-size sleepers.
We recommend the Soft and Medium models for strict side sleepers as well as combination sleepers. While the Firm version, on the other hand, is ideal for back and stomach sleepers who require a bit more support to keep their spine in a neutral alignment.
The Bear Elite Hybrid got a 9.8 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
I usually switch between side sleeping and stomach sleeping which is a weird combination.
Get this, I felt superb pressure relief while sleeping on my side and I also felt well-supported on my stomach which is not something every mattress can offer.
Responsiveness refers to how easy it is to move (and roll) around the mattress. I’d say it was quite easy to switch positions on this mattress because it has a good amount of bounce thanks to the pocketed coils underneath.
The Bear Elite Hybrid got a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
Remember the cooling cover I mentioned earlier?
Made from a blend of Celliant and PCM, the cover was cool to the touch and the phase change material helps draw away body heat.
In addition to that, the copper-infused memory foam and the coil system also allowed for extra airflow through the mattress.
Oh and the Celliant fiber material in the cover?
Studies have shown it to have not only cooling benefits but that it also aids in muscle recovery. This makes the Bear Elite Hybrid ideal for athletes and active individuals.
The Bear Elite Hybrid got a 9.6 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
We felt minimal motion transfer on this mattress and we highly recommend it for those who share a bed with a partner who’s a restless sleeper.
The Elite Hybrid got a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
It offer solid edge support and it did not show much compression when we slept near its edges. Sitting, however, caused the edge of the bed to sink a little bit more than when I was lying down.

Alternate pick: Bear Star Hybrid
You liked the Elite Hybrid but it’s just a little bit over your budget?
If that’s the case, you can check out the Bear Star Hybrid. It’s more affordable than the Elite Hybrid and it provides almost the same amount of pressure relief and support.
Made with gel-infused memory foam instead of copper, the Bear Star Hybrid excels in cooling and can accommodate most individuals and sleeping styles.

It also has a proprietary cooling cover that wicks away moisture and dissipates body heat.
If you’re looking for a great hybrid mattress, go for the Helix Midnight Luxe.
It showed exceptional results in all our performance tests and its only caveat is that it’s not supportive enough for plus-size stomach sleepers.

Helix Midnight Luxe performance
We gave the Helix Midnight Luxe a 6.5 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale.
We found it to be right around a medium-firm and it has a plush, body-cradling feel that’s common with memory foam mattresses.
It’s suitable for all sleeper types: back, stomach, side, and combination.
However, we would not recommend it to stomach sleepers who weigh over 300 lbs. It might be too soft to help provide proper support for those who are heavier-set.
The Helix Midnight Luxe got an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
We immediately felt soft cushioning from the pillow top mattress surface but the real winner was the copper-infused memory foam layer.
I felt very good pressure relief on my hips and shoulders while lying on my side and body-contouring support while on my back.
We didn’t experience issues when switching positions on the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress.
The Helix Midnight Luxe got a 6 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
The mattress claims to contain several cooling materials to help hot sleepers maintain a neutral temperature throughout the night but I did experience quite a bit of heat retention heat retention after sleeping on the mattress for several nights.
The Helix Midnight Luxe got a 10 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
I’d say this is a pretty good result for a mattress with coils. The memory foam layer definitely helps isolate motion on either side of the bed.
The Midnight Luxe got a 9 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
I felt well-supported as I moved towards the edge of the bed.

Compared to the Helix Midnight Luxe, the Helix Dawn is firmer and sits around a 7 on the mattress firmness scale.

- Naturally cooling and hypoallergenic
- Fiberglass-free

- Slight barnyard-y smell
- Setting up is a two man job

The Naturepedic EOS Classic is one of the best mattresses because you can customize its firmness and feel to fit your specific needs.

On top of that, this mattress also offer split firmness for the queen size and above. This is super convenient for couples who have different firmness preferences.
Another thing we really like about the Naturepedic EOS Classic is that it has replaceable components.
This means you can combat wear and tear by switching out layers after a couple of years.
Aside from extending the lifetime of your mattress, you also help preserve the environment by keeping it out of the landfill.

Naturepedic EOS Classic performance
The Naturepedic EOS Classic comes in 5 firmness options which range from Plush (3) all the way to Extra Firm (8).
Although it’s made with natural latex which is pretty responsive, we did get a good amount of initial cushioning from the quilted layer on top.
We recommend this mattress for all sleeper types as well as couples who don’t have the same sleep position.
You and your partner can take advantage of the split firmness design and customize each side of the bed to the firmness level of your liking.
The Naturepedic EOS Classic got a 9 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
I felt the most pressure relief on the Plush and Medium versions. Go for one of these versions if you’re somebody who strictly sleeps on their side. But if you’re a back sleeper, we recommend the Cushion Firm and Firm versions for a great balance of comfort and support.
The NaturepedicEOS Classic got a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
As someone who tends to sleep hot, I felt fresh and cool on the mattress due to the breathable organic latex layer. This section has countless pinholes to promote air circulation and dissipate body heat on the mattress.
The Naturepedic EOS Classic (queen size) got a 9.7 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
The queen size model of this mattress got excellent motion isolation results because it is split in the middle. This makes it very unlikely for cross-mattress motion transfer to occur.
However, we did still feel a tiny bit of motion transfer from bigger movements like getting in and out of the bed. But all in all, we highly recommend this mattress for couples.
The Naturepedic EOS Classic got a 6 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
I felt significant compression when I slept on the edge of the bed. It’s the one caveat that this high-end mattress has.

Nolah Evolution 15 performance
Our team gave the Nolah Evolution 15 the following firmness ratings: 4.5 for the Plush, 6.5-7 for the Luxury Firm, and 8 for the Firm version.
This mattress has more of a soft pillow top feel and it’s suitable for all body types and sleeping positions.
In addition, Nolah also offers a heavy-duty version of the Evolution 15 mattress called the Comfort+ which is designed for individuals over 300 lbs.
We found that the Plush model works best for strict side sleepers, while the Luxury Firm version is best for side and back combination sleepers.
However, if you’re primarily a stomach sleeper, you should opt for the Firm mattress version.
The Nolah Evolution 15 got a 9.7 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
Although Nolah AirFoam™ typically feels more responsive than traditional memory foam mattresses, the soft pillow top on this mattress provides lots of contouring comfort and pressure relief.
This mattress also has zoned support to keep your spine in proper alignment which in turn can help prevent back pain.
The Evolution 15 got a 9.3 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
The results were good but not as great as an actively cooling mattress.
Nonetheless, we got some nice airflow from the open-cell foam and the breathable organic cotton cover. The quilted Euro topper also has high thermal conductivity (HTC) to draw heat away from your body.
The Nolah Evolution 15 got a 9.6 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
Hybrid mattresses tend to have moderate to high motion transfer but this mattress is an exception (usually depends on whether they’re individually wrapped or not).
We felt little to no motion transfer thanks to both the pocketed coils and the proprietary memory foam.
The Evolution 15 got a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
I felt very well-supported as I moved towards the edge of the mattress. It’s definitely a plus for couples who like to use the entire surface of the bed.
Alternate pick: Nolah Original Hybrid
If you want something a bit more affordable, check out the Nolah Original Hybrid.
It’s a medium-firm mattress that also contains proprietary AirFoam™ and a supportive coil unit for responsive comfort and support.

Why it’s one of the best
The SweetNight Prime is our top pick for best mattress with an all-foam construction.
It’s a flipabble memory foam mattress that has four different firmness zones – two on top and two on the bottom.
Available in 10″ and 12″ profiles, the Sweet Night Prime can accommodate most average-weight individuals regardless of their sleep position.
The 10″ model is slightly firmer whereas the 12″ version offers more comfort and support.
If you’re looking for a budget mattress online that has good quality, go for the Sweet Night Prime.
It showed good results in our performance tests except for its edge support which honestly could be better.

Sweet Night Prime performance
I’ve tested over 100 mattresses in the past two years and the Sweet Night Prime is the first one to feature 4 firmness zones in one mattress.
You get Soft and Medium-Soft on top, and Medium-Firm and Firm on the bottom. You can flip the mattress and sleep on the side that best suits your specific needs.
We recommend the Sweet Night Prime for most sleeper types with the exception of those who weigh well over 300 lbs.
This mattress is not supportive enough for plus-size sleepers and we would suggest looking for firmer hybrid mattresses.
The Sweet Night Prime got a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
It did give us some nice pressure relief especially while sleeping on our side. It provides a cradling memory foam mattress feel that evenly distributes body weight and alleviates tension from all over.
The Sweet Night Prime got a 9 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
I slept around temperature-neutral on this mattress and I didn’t experience any heat retention. That said, it isn’t the best cooling mattress I’ve ever tried.
The Sweet Night Prime got a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
We noticed very minimal motion transfer on this mattress which is common for most memory foam beds. Couples shouldn’t be disturbed that much by their partner’s movements.
The Sweet Night Prime got an 8.7 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
This is one major drawback that we discovered on the mattress. It has poor edge support and we would not recommend sleeping near its edges.

So, the Sweet Night Prime is great but it’s not ideal for plus-size sleepers.
If you want more support, check out the Sweet Night Twilight. It’s a high-quality hybrid mattress that contains both gel memory foam and pocketed coils to accommodate heavy individuals. Like the Prime, the Twilight is also very affordable and it offers great value.

#7. The Winkbed
Pros
- Hotel quality
- Suitable for all sleeper types and sleeping positions
- Comes in 4 different firmness levels
- Responsive support
- Pressure relieving
Cons
- Slight off-gassing
- Can be too pricey for some
Why it’s one of the best
Our testing showed that the Winkbed is the best mattress for back pain in 2024.
It’s an innerspring hybrid mattress that contains gel memory foam to provide body-hugging pressure relief for your joints and lumbar region.
The Winkbed mattress is 13.5 inches tall and it comes in four firmness levels including a heavy-duty model for plus-size sleepers.
In our Winkbed mattress review, we found it to be one of the most versatile beds on the market because it works for all sleeper types regardless of body weight and sleeping position.
If you suffer from back pain and you prefer a more traditional innerspring mattress feel, the Winkbed is going to be your best bet.
It showed excellent results in all our performance tests and its only downsides are its relatively high price and some off-gassing upon unboxing.

The Winkbed performance
The Winkbed’s three main firmness options range from Softer (4.5) to Firmer (7.5) with the Luxury Firm in between being the most popular version.
The mattress also has a bonus option called Plus which has an extra-firm firmness level and is a highly supportive bed that’s designed for plus-size sleepers.
We recommend the Softer version for strict side sleepers and the Luxury Firm version for side and back combination sleepers.
Not many consumers go for the Firmer model but we do think it’s a good fit for strict back and stomach sleepers who need more support in their lumbar area.
The Winkbed mattress got an 8 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
Personally, I received the most pressure relief while I was lying on my back on the Winkbed mattress. The gel-infused foam layer contoured to my body and filled in the gap in my lower back to alleviate any tension.
The Winkbed mattress got a 7 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
This mattress sleeps temperature-neutral and it contains gel-infused memory foam which helps dissipate body heat. The individually-wrapped coils also helps promote continuous airflow all throughout the mattress.
The Winkbed mattress got a 7 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
We noticed very little cross-mattress movement when we tried the mattress out with a partner. This makes the WinkBed mattress a good fit for couples.
The Winkbed mattress got an 8 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
The edge support on this mattress is super sturdy. You can move towards the edge of the bed without feeling like you’re about to roll off.
Alternate pick: Winkbeds EcoCloud
If you’re more of an eco-conscious individual, we suggest checking out the Winkbeds EcoCloud mattress.
It’s an all-natural mattress that’s made with organic Talalay latex and individually-encased coils. It’s a medium-firm mattress that provides great comfort and responsive support for all sleeper types. Being a latex mattress, it is also naturally cooling and hypoallergenic making it a good choice for hot sleepers and those who suffer from seasonal allergies.
Unlike the base model WinkBed though, the EcoCloud only has one firmness level.
#8. Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe
Pros
- Extreme pressure relief
- Offers responsive support
- Very cooling
- Features a soft, plush pillow top
Cons
- Motion isolation could be better
- Poor edge support
25% off coupon code: SLEEPLINE25
Why it’s one of the best
It’s quite rare that a mattress gets full marks when it comes to comfort and pressure relief but the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe fully deserves its 10 out of 10 status.
Its unique combination of copper-infused hyper-elastic foam, plush pillow top and pocketed steel coils provides more than enough support and compression for all sleeper types which is the main reason why the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe deserves to be on this list.
Another thing I liked a lot about the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is its ability to dissipate any heat that’s been retained which makes it a great cooling mattress for those that sleep hot.
There are a couple of things that may be a deal breaker for some people though, especially for those that share a bed with a partner – edge support and motion isolation.

Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe performance
You get 3 different firmness options with the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe: soft, medium and firm. The soft version is best for those who sleep strictly on their sides while the medium version can accommodate most sleeper types including combination sleepers. The firm version is best for those who sleep mostly on their backs and stomachs as it provides them with the most support.
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe got a 10 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
The foam layers of the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress already offer enough contouring and compression but the addition of a Euro pillow top takes things to another level, offering you more than enough pressure relief no matter your preferred sleeping position.
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe got an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress technically only contains 2 actively cooling materials – a GlacioTex cooling cover and copper-infused foam – but those two are enough to do away with any heat retention making the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe a good choice for hot sleepers.
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe got a 6.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
As someone who’s a pretty light sleeper, I have to say that the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is bouncier than most hybrid mattresses. I experienced a significant motion transfer when I tried it out with a partner so if you’re on the same boat as me and share a bed with a rather large pet (or a human, as you do) then this could be an issue.
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe got a 6 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe does not contain any reinforced edge coils which means you won’t get enough edge support – definitely not enough for you to be able to utilize most of the mattress surface.

#9. Birch Luxe Natural
Pros
- Naturally cooling and hypoallergenic
- Made from natural latex
- Offers responsive support
- Suitable for back and stomach sleepers
Cons
- Not suitable for heavier-set individuals
- May be a bit too firm for strict side sleepers

Why it’s one of the best
Who doesn’t want a mattress that performs well all across the board? The Birch Luxe Natural is an all-natural and organic mattress (as all Birch Living-branded mattresses) are but the Luxe Natural is a couple steps ahead of its counterparts when it comes to its components.
Made from different layers of organic latex, organic wool, plant-based fibers and a recycled steel coil unit, the Birch Luxe Natural also comes backed by an impressive list of certifications including ones from Greenguard Gold, GOLS and eco-INSTITUT.
But certifications won’t really mean anything if the mattress itself isn’t giving you what you want.
Fortunately, the Birch Luxe Natural offers maximum pressure relief and zoned support, especially if you’re a back or stomach sleeper.

Birch Luxe Natural performance
The Birch Luxe Natural sits on a 6.5 on the mattress firmness scale giving it a medium-firm feel that’s best for stomach and back sleepers. Although a medium-firm mattress can usually accommodate most sleeper types including combination sleepers, this mattress can be a bit too firm for lightweight side sleepers.
Being a hybrid mattress, the Birch Luxe Natural can accommodate heavier-set sleepers and provide them with the extra support that they need.
The Birch Luxe Natural got an 8 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
The Birch Luxe Natural does not contain any compressing memory foam but you won’t even miss it with its multiple layers of organic latex foam that provides more than enough contouring and pressure relief as well as targeted support.
The Birch Luxe Natural got a 9 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
Pure latex is naturally cooling as well hypoallergenic and the Birch Luxe Natural does not contain any heat-retentive manmade foam whatsoever making it one of the coolest mattresses I have tried.
The Birch Luxe Natural got an 8 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
Latex hybrid mattresses like the Birch Luxe Natural tend to be bouncier than regular hybrid mattresses but I barely felt any motion transfer when I tried the mattress out with a partner making it a good choice for those who share a bed.
The Birch Luxe Natural got an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
The Birch Luxe Natural contains reinforced edge coils that help provide extra edge support allowing you to utilize more of the mattress surface which is crucial especially if you share your bed with a partner.

#10. Puffy Lux
Pros
- Cooling
- Pressure relieving
- Great motion isolation
- Suitable for all sleeper types
Cons
- Can be a bit pricey
- Poor motion isolation
Why it’s one of the best
Out of all the mattresses we tested, the Puffy Lux is our top pick for side sleepers.
We believe it’s one of the best memory foam mattress models on the market and it’s reinforced with pocketed coils for durable support.
The Puffy Lux is 12 inches tall and we found it slightly softer than most medium-firm mattresses. It provides multiple benefits for all sleeper types without the drawbacks of traditional memory foam.
If you’re primarily a side sleeper, go for the Puffy Lux.
It did very well in all but one of our performance tests and its only major caveat is that it’s not supportive enough for plus-size stomach sleepers.

Puffy Lux performance
We gave the Puffy Lux a 6 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale.
It’s just a touch softer than medium-firm and I experienced a slow-moving memory foam mattress feel while lying on the mattress.
We recommend the Puffy Lux for all sleeper types but it’s best suited for side sleepers who need that extra pressure relief.
But, if you’re a heavier stomach sleeper, we suggest looking for a more supportive mattress that will keep your hips from dipping into the bed.
The Puffy Lux mattress got a 9.6 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
The gel-infused memory foam layers relieved pressure from my hips and shoulders. The mattress also contours to your body to ensure that your body weight is evenly distributed.
The Puffy Lux mattress got a 9.3 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
I experienced zero heat retention while sleeping on the mattress. It does contain several cooling materials to help regulate temperature on the surface of the mattress which could then improve your sleep quality.
The Puffy Lux mattress got a 9.7 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
The soft memory foam layers on top did an excellent job of limiting any cross-mattress motion transfer. This would be a good mattress choice if you share a bed with a partner or a pet.
The Puffy Lux mattress got an 8.9 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
The mattress falls a little short on this category. The plush foams compressed significantly as I moved towards the edge of the bed.
Alternate pick: Puffy Cloud
If you’re looking for a relatively cheap mattress, take a look at the Puffy Cloud mattress.
It’s an all-foam bed that’s designed to provide extra spinal support for back and stomach sleepers in particular. We recommend the Puffy Cloud because it’s a good-quality mattress that’s long-lasting and offers great value.
How we chose these mattresses
A good mattress offers a balanced mix of comfort, support, and durability and we chose mattresses that excel in all three.
To determine a mattress’s performance, we also considered factors such as firmness, pressure relief, responsiveness, temperature regulation, motion isolation, and edge support.
And on top of all that, we made sure to look for mattresses that are backed by safety and sustainability certifications.
Here’s a brief description of each factor we considered while making this list:
- Comfort – Comfort is pretty subjective. That’s why we look for mattresses that would be comfortable for all body types and sleeping positions.
- Support – In terms of support, we look for mattresses that can hold at least 800 lbs. without sagging prematurely. Ample support is also essential for keeping a sleeper’s spine in proper alignment.
- Durability – A durable mattress is one that can provide a consistent level of comfort and support for a minimum of 10 years (industry standard). We tested the mattresses to make sure that they could support lightweight sleepers all the way to 500 lb. individuals without comprising their structural integrity. The type of mattress plays a major role in its durability.
- Firmness – Each person has unique firmness preferences depending on their body type, weight and preferred sleeping position. For that reason, we look for mattresses that are medium to medium-firm which is the firmness that fits the widest variety of sleepers. We also search for mattresses that come in multiple firmness levels to give consumers multiple options to choose from.
- Pressure relief – Pressure relief refers to the ability of a mattress to redistribute your body weight to prevent pressure from building up on one spot. To test for pressure relief, we check if a mattress can contour to our bodies and evenly distribute body weight.
- Responsiveness – This refers to how quickly a mattress snaps back to its original shape after pressure is released from it. We look for mattresses that allow for ease of movement and don’t give us a stuck-in-the-mud feeling.
- Temperature regulation – A mattress with good temperature regulation should not trap body heat. We look for mattresses with designs that promote air circulation and beds that contain cooling materials such as gel, copper or graphite infusions. Breathable covers are also a big plus in this area.
- Motion isolation – A mattress with good motion isolation is one that prevents motion on one side from transferring to the other side of the bed. This is especially important for those who sleep with fidgety partners.
- Edge support – This refers to how well the perimeter of a mattress can support weight. We test this by sleeping and sitting near the edge of the bed and measuring the degree of compression on the mattress.
- Certifications – We looked for mattresses that are backed by environmental certifications. Some of the certifications that we look out for are CertiPUR-US and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 for all-foam beds, and GOTS and GOLS for organic mattresses.
