Why it’s one of the best
It’s no secret that Bear churns out quality mattresses. While you might think that their least expensive option would be short on quality, that isn’t the case.
The Bear Original mattress features just three different components – cooling gel-infused memory foam, a proprietary Dynamic foam, and a high-density foam base layer. In this case, I think simple is more than enough. The materials really are high quality.
The Bear Original’s medium-firm feel can accommodate most sleeper types including those who sleep primarily on their backs and sides.
The best thing about the Bear Original is its motion isolating properties – you literally won’t feel any motion transfer which makes it the perfect choice for those who share a bed.

Bear Original Performance
The Bear Original mattress sits on a 7 on the mattress firmness scale giving it a medium-firm feel. While this mattress firmness is suitable for most sleeper types including back and side sleepers, heavier-set stomach sleepers may find that it lacks the extra support they need.
We rate the Bear Original a 6.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
Truth be told, the rating for this would have been a little higher if only the mattress was good for heavier-set sleepers, but for an all-foam mattress with a medium-firm feel, it provides ample contouring and pressure relief for all other sleeper types.
We rate the Bear Original a 5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
Due to its lack of actively-cooling materials (save for the cooling gel foam, which honestly didn’t do much), the mattress isn’t the best if you’re a hot sleeper.
We rate the Bear Original a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
As with most all-foam mattresses, this mattress’ all-foam construction does a solid job at deadening any cross mattress movement. I barely felt any motion transfer when I tried the mattress out with a partner.
We rate the Bear Original a 6 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
The mattress doesn’t contain any reinforced edges, which shows in its lack of proper edge support. Although not the worst, you’ll definitely roll off the bed if you’re the type of sleeper who likes to sleep on or close to the edge.

SweetNight Prime Performance
The SweetNight Prime comes in four different firmness levels in one mattress – one side features a soft and a medium-soft while the other features a medium-firm and a firm. Having all these firmness levels means the mattress is suitable for all sleeper types from side and combination sleepers to back and stomach sleepers.
Being an all-foam mattress though, the SweetNight Prime will not be able to give those who weigh over 230 lbs. the extra support they need.
We rate the SweetNight Prime a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
You get a true memory feel with this mattress. You also get the same contouring and compression no matter your preferred sleeping position.
We rate the SweetNight Prime a 9 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
For an all-foam mattress that doesn’t contain any actively-cooling materials save for a cooling gel memory foam, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the mattress sleeps very cool, making it a great choice for those who tend to sleep hot.
We rate the SweetNight Prime a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
All-foam mattresses perform brilliantly when it comes to absorbing any cross mattress movement. I didn’t feel any motion transfer whatsoever when I tried the mattress out with a partner.
We rate the SweetNight Prime an 8.7 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
For a mattress that doesn’t contain reinforced edges, this mattress somehow has amazing edge support. You definitely won’t roll off the edge of the bed.

#3. Glacier Original Hybrid
Pros
- Good for back and stomach sleepers
- Made without fiberglass
- Offers responsive support
- Cooling
Cons
- Slight motion transfer
- Not suitable for strict side sleepers
Why it’s one of the best
Back and stomach sleepers make up a small minority of the population… but that doesn’t mean they should be forgotten, should they?
Medium-firm mattresses like the Glacier Original Hybrid are best for those who sleep only on their backs or stomachs as they provide extra support while also helping with spinal alignment.
The Glacier Original Hybrid is made up of different types of proprietary foam such as graphite-infused memory foam, gel-infused memory foam, and a ventilated gel foam. It also has a coil unit that offers zoned support.
Another thing I liked a lot about the Glacier Original Hybrid is that it’s cooling for even those who tend to sleep extremely hot.

Glacier Original Hybrid Performance
The Glacier Original Hybrid sits on a 7.5 on the mattress firmness scale giving it a medium-firm feel that actually skews a bit more towards firm. This makes the Glacier Original Hybrid perfect for strict stomach and back sleepers, but not so much for side sleepers in terms of pressure point relief.
We rate the Glacier Original Hybrid a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
If only the mattress were a little softer then it could have gotten a higher rating. But because it’s not great for side sleepers, well, here we are. But back and stomach sleepers get more than enough contouring as well as targeted support.
We rate the Glacier Original Hybrid an 8 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
Almost all the components of the mattress are actively cooling; such as graphite, cooling gel-infused memory foam, and ventilated gel foam (which helps with heat retention).
We rate the Glacier Original Hybrid a 6 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
The coil unit is a bit bouncier than most, which contributes to the bed being somewhat springier which in turn makes you feel a bit more motion transfer. Though not the worst, you might feel uncomfortable if you share a bed with someone significantly heavier than you.
We rate the Glacier Original Hybrid a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
The mattress features reinforced edges, giving it extra edge support. You won’t be in any danger of rolling off the mattress.

Why it’s one of the best
If you prefer something that’s no-frills and no-fuss, the Egohome Black mattress is your best bet.
Made from a blend of proprietary foam and memory foam alternatives, the Egohome Black offers a traditional memory foam feel without any of the dreaded sinkage.
Aside from the classic memory foam contouring and compression, the Egohome Black also won’t disappoint you in the motion isolation department, making it a good choice for couples.

Egohome Black Performance
You get two different firmness options to choose from with the Egohome Black mattress – a medium-soft and a medium-firm.
If you’re a side sleeper or combination sleeper, choose the medium-soft version as it will offer you more pressure relief. If you’re a back sleeper or stomach sleeper, choose the medium-firm version as it will offer you more support.
We rate the Egohome Black an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
I was really impressed with the pressure point relief I experienced with this mattress. No complaints here.
We rate the Egohome Black a 6.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
Sure, the mattress contains a couple of gel-infused foams that are supposedly cooling… but it’s not enough to help with heat retention. If you tend to sleep extremely hot, this mattress is not for you.
We rate the Egohome Black a 10 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
I probably sound like a broken record by now but there’s no denying that all-foam mattresses are the best at motion isolation and the Egohome Black is at the top of the pack on this list.
We rate the Egohome Black a 6 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
The edge support on this mattress is not the best that I’ve tried. It could be an issue if you weigh on the heavier side of the spectrum.

#5. Avenco Original Hybrid Plus
Pros
- Perfect for back and stomach sleepers
- Pressure-relieving
- Affordable
- Great edge support
Cons
- Poor motion isolation
- Not suitable for side sleepers
6% off coupon code: Sleepline
Why it’s one of the best
Made especially for those who sleep on their backs and stomachs, the Avenco Original Hybrid Plus features a firm mattress surface that not only helps with proper spinal alignment but also provides pressure point relief.
Although it only comes in one firmness level, the Avenco Original Hybrid Plus comes in two different thickness options (which is perfect for a guest bed or a trundle bed).
Side sleepers beware though – since the Avenco Original Hybrid Plus is on the firmer side, it won’t give those who sleep strictly on their sides the pressure relief that they need (especially in the shoulder area).

Avenco Original Hybrid Plus Performance
A 7 on the mattress firmness scale, the Avenco Original Hybrid Plus has a true firm feel which is perfect if you sleep on your back or stomach, as it helps you achieve proper spinal alignment. If you’re a side sleeper, you may not find the Avenco Original Hybrid Plus to be very comfortable as it may eat into your pressure points.
We rate the Avenco Original Hybrid Plus a 7 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
If you think a 7 is pretty low, know that we only rate it that purely because it’s not suitable for side sleepers. But back and stomach sleepers definitely will experience ample pressure relief.
We rate the Avenco Original Hybrid Plus an 8 out 10 when it comes to cooling.
There is literally only one actively-cooling material in the mattress, but one is more than enough in this case. The cooling gel-infused memory foam in combination with the mattress’ coil unit is enough to keep the heat away.
We rate the Avenco Original Hybrid Plus a 6 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
Let’s face it – hybrid mattresses will always have that inherent bounce due to their coil units. Although this mattress’ motion isolation isn’t the best, it isn’t the worst either.
We rate the Avenco Original Hybrid Plus an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
This mattress contains reinforced edge coils which help provide extra support.

Cons
- Motion isolation is not the best
- Slight off-gassing

Why it’s one of the best
Mattresses that contain latex are usually pretty expensive… but what if I told you that you can score one that won’t cost you an arm and a leg?
The Origin Adapt Hybrid not only contains bamboo-infused memory foam but also graphite-infused cooling latex foam in addition to a host of other proprietary types of foam.
I like this. A lot.
It gives you the best parts of both a memory foam mattress and a latex mattress. The best part – it costs way below $1000.
Almost all of the components of the Origin Adapt Hybrid are infused with actively cooling materials. This mattress is great if you sleep hot.
Slight little caveat though – the Adapt Hybrid only comes in one firmness option which is firm. That means it’s really only good for stomach and back sleepers. Side sleepers should look elsewhere.

Origin Adapt Hybrid Performance
The Origin Adapt Hybrid sits on an 8 on the mattress firmness scale which is… pretty firm.
Firm mattresses are best for those who sleep only on their backs or stomachs because the firmness helps with proper spinal alignment. Side sleepers may find the Origin Adapt Hybrid to be too firm.
Being a hybrid mattress, the Origin Adapt Hybrid is great for overweight sleepers.
We rate the Origin Adapt Hybrid an 8 out of 10 when it comes to pressure relief.
Because the mattress contains both latex and memory foam, you not only get contouring and compression but also responsive support. The mattress also features a HexaGrid foam layer which helps provide targeted support.
We rate the Origin Adapt Hybrid an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
The mattress contains actively cooling materials in almost every layer, from the graphite-infused latex foam to the bamboo-infused memory foam. This helps keep heat retention at a minimum.
We rate the Origin Adapt Hybrid a 6 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
Unfortunately, latex foam is pretty responsive, meaning this is going to be a bouncier mattress. The coil unit can create some motion transfer, especially if you share a bed with someone who’s significantly heavier than you are.
We rate the Origin Adapt Hybrid a 9 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
The mattress contains reinforced edge coils which helps provide extra edge support all around the perimeter. This allows you to use the entire mattress surface.

#7. Novilla Bliss
Pros
- Very affordable
- Good motion isolation
- Good for those who suffer from chronic body pain
- Soft and cushioning
Cons
- Not suitable for strict back and stomach sleepers
- Heat retentive
6% off coupon code: Sleepline6
Why it’s one of the best
The Novilla Bliss may be the most inexpensive mattress on this list, but it certainly isn’t the worst when it comes to comfort and pressure relief, especially for those who suffer from chronic body pain such as fibromyalgia.
Made up of different types of proprietary foam including a breathable wave foam that features grooves for targeted support, the Novilla Bliss is soft and cushioning and cradles your body in all the right places.
You can choose from three different thickness options, making it a good choice for kids’ beds as well as bunk beds and guest beds.

Novilla Bliss Performance
The Novilla Bliss mattress sits at a 4 on the mattress firmness scale giving it a medium-soft feel.
Medium-soft mattresses are best if you sleep on your side since this firmness level provides you with the pressure relief you need (especially in the shoulders and hips).
We do not recommend softer mattresses if you sleep on your back or stomach as it can cause your spinal alignment to be thrown off-balance.
We rate the Novilla Bliss a 7 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
The proprietary foam layers provide enough pressure relief even for those who suffer from chronic body pain.
We rate the Novilla Bliss a 4 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
Because of its multiple foam layers, I found this mattress to be a bit more heat-retentive than most other all-foam mattresses. This might not be the best mattress for you if you sleep extremely hot.
We rate the Novilla Bliss a 10 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
Great news for couples – this mattress performs amazingly well when it comes to motion isolation. I did not experience any motion transfer whatsoever when I tried the mattress out with a partner.
We rate the Novilla Bliss a 6 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
Due to its lack of reinforced edges (and partially because it’s made out of memory foam), this mattress does not really have enough edge support to support heavier-set sleepers who like sleeping close to the edge of the bed.

How we chose these mattresses
We picked these mattresses based on a complete list of factors that we believe make up a great inexpensive mattress. We base them off the following criteria:
- Pressure relief – Everyone has pressure points, so this is important when it comes to choosing the right mattress. We chose mattresses that offer maximum pressure relief.
- Cooling – Sleeping hot is the number one cause of sleeplessness. Choosing mattresses that offer superb cooling capabilities is crucial to getting a good night’s sleep.
- Firmness – Mattress firmness correlates to one’s preferred sleeping position, so we chose mattresses that suit the needs of side sleepers in particular.
- Motion isolation – Picking a mattress that offers good motion isolation is important if you share a bed with a partner. We chose mattresses that are suitable for couples.
- Edge support – Not only does edge support help (and protect) those who prefer sleeping close to the edge of the bed, having a mattress with good edge support also provides you with a wider mattress surface.
- Durability – We chose mattresses that we know will last long and ones that come with reasonable return policies.
Conclusion
It’s true that mattresses are an investment which you can benefit from in the long term… but you don’t have to go into debt to get a good night’s sleep.
Good quality mattresses can be had for a fraction of the price you’d pay for premium mattresses if you just know where to look.
I tested all of the mattresses I could find (trust me, it was a lot). So I can definitively say that the brands on this list are the best mattresses you can buy for under $1000.
