#1. Saatva Latex Hybrid

Saatva Latex Hybrid with headboard

Pros

Cons

Why it’s the overall best

In the world of natural latex mattresses, Saatva reigns supreme and it’s not hard to see why – made with certified organic latex foam and all-natural materials, the Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress is actively cooling, pressure-relieving and responsive.

All the things you want in a good latex mattress.

It may not necessarily be an affordable mattress but hey, you’re paying for quality and a good number of years worth of a good night’s sleep.

Saatva Latex Hybrid performance

When it comes to comfort and support, the Saatva Latex Hybrid offers superior comfort and a more responsive support.

Unlike memory foam mattresses that cradle and contour the body (allows you to sink into the mattress), latex foam mattresses are more responsive especially coupled with pocketed spring coils.

This lets you sleep on top of the mattress rather than in it allowing you to move around the bed with ease.

On the mattress firmness scale, the Saatva Latex Hybrid sits on a 6.5 to 7, giving it a true medium-firm feel. This makes the mattress suitable for all sleeper types, from strict side sleepers to back and stomach sleepers.

Being a hybrid, the Saatva Latex Hybrid is also suitable for those who are heavier-set, although they might find the mattress to be a tad softer than those who are of average weight.

On the motion isolation front, we found the mattress to perform really well when it comes to deadening any cross mattress movement.

If you’re particularly sensitive to smells though, you might find the mattress to have a distinct, slightly earthy smell from all the natural materials used but don’t worry, this will dissipate within a few weeks (yes, weeks not days).

Saatva HD latex mattress

Alternate Pick: Saatva HD

Heavyweight alternative

If you’re a bit on the heavier side and you really want the Saatva Latex Hybrid, Saatva has an alternative made specifically for heavier-set individuals which is the Saatva HD mattress.

Made with the same sustainably sourced, GOLS certified organic Talalay latex as the Saatva Latex hybrid, the Saatva HD is made with 12.5 gauge tempered steel coils – 25% stronger than the industry standard. This makes the Saatva HD mattress a solid choice for those who weigh well over 250 lbs. with a lot more weight capacity left for a plus one. And yes, the Saatva HD is also fiberglass-free.

#2. PlushBeds Botanical Bliss

PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress on upholstered bed frame

Pros

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

Latex mattresses rarely come in different firmness options let alone different height profiles.

The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress is made from a blend of organic Talalay and Arpico latex that provides unique cushioning support that’s somehow both contouring and responsive.

That makes the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress perfect for those who suffer from from back pain or chronic pain.

The option to choose between different height levels also makes it the perfect choice for those who have limited mobility.

Specs at a glance

Thickness levels 9 inches, 10 inches, and 12 inches
Firmness levels Medium, Medium-firm
Materials GOLS certified organic Talalay and Arpico latex, organic wool as well as GOTS certified organic cotton

PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Performance

The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress is an all-foam latex mattress so right off the bat we can safely say that it would not exactly be the most supportive bed for heavier individuals.

That said, because you have the option to choose between 2 firmness levels, the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress is suitable for every sleeping position.

Without that extra bounce from steel coils (which can be found in innerspring and hybrid beds), we found the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss to do fairly well in the motion isolation department – not excellent, but fairly well.

Those who share a bed with a partner who’s a bit of a restless sleeper might feel a little bit of movement.

What we liked most about the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss is its pressure relieving properties.

No matter what position you sleep in, you won’t feel the bed poking into your main pressure points. This makes it the perfect choice for those who suffer from chronic pain such as fibromyalgia or arthritis.

Upon unboxing, you might notice a slight barnyard-y smell coming from the mattress. This is natural due to the organic wool that PlushBeds uses as their flame barrier. This will dissipate within a few days.

Cheaper alternative

If you want something a little bit more within your price range but still within the PlushBeds lineup, the PlushBeds Eco Bliss mattress has pretty much the same features as the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss but with fewer latex layers (don’t worry, no hidden synthetic latex layers here).

An all-foam mattress like the Botanical Bliss, the Eco Bliss mattress also comes in 3 different height profiles as well as 2 firmness options to choose from making it suitable for all sleeper types.

#3. Nolah Natural

nolah natural mattress on wooden bed frame

Pros

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

Nolah recently overhauled their entire mattress lineup and the Nolah Natural mattress got its long overdue revamp (although that’s not to say that it wasn’t good before but now it’s chef’s kiss).

While it’s medium to medium-firm firmness level suits all sleeping positions, we think stomach sleepers would love it the most.

Made from a blend of natural talalay latex foam layers and organic wool along with a tri-zone pocketed coil system, the Nolah Natural is a firm latex mattress that can help offer proper spinal alignment.

Specs at a glance

Thickness levels 11 inches
Firmness levels Medium Firm
Materials Talalay latex, organic wool, organic cotton, pocketed steel coils

Nolah Natural performance

Being a hybrid mattress, the Nolah Natural mattress is suitable for heavier-set individuals, offering enough support without any of the sinkage usually associated with all-foam mattresses.

Because it’s a firmer latex mattress, we found motion transfer to be very minimal when we tried the mattress out with a partner making the Nolah Natural a good choice for couples.

For the same reason, the Nolah Natural mattress offers proper spinal alignment, especially for stomach sleepers who need a firmer mattress.

We like that the mattress offers targeted support, providing both pressure relief in the areas where you really need it.

Most latex mattresses – especially ones made from natural latex – are naturally cooling and hypoallergenic, making it a great choice for hot sleepers as well as those who suffer from seasonal allergies.

#4. Avocado Eco Organic

avocado eco organic latex mattress on wood bed frame

Pros

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

There are only three mattress brands in the world that have the MADE SAFE certification and Avocado Green is one of them.

Let that sink in.

If you’re looking for a mattress that’s fully organic with ethically and sustainably sourced natural materials, look no further than the Avocado Eco Organic mattress.

Made from a blend of GOLS certified organic Dunlop latex, GOTS certified organic cotton and organic wool sourced straight from the rubber trees on Avocado’s own farms in Guatemala, the Avocado Eco Organic mattress is the most eco-friendly organic mattress you can get.

Avocado Eco Organic performance

Most latex mattresses tend to be a touch firmer than other mattresses, especially ones that are latex hybrids.

The Avocado Eco Organic mattress is just a touch softer than most, providing superior pressure relief on the body’s main pressure points.

Although the Eco Organic mattress is very responsive and slightly bouncy due to its innerspring coils, we barely felt any movement when we tried the mattress out with a partner.

As with most hybrid mattresses, the Avocado Eco Organic mattress is suitable for heavier-set individuals with its weight capacity of up to 600 lbs.

We also found edge support to be excellent on the Eco Organic mattress thanks to its higher gauge perimeter coils.

Just like the other mattresses on this list that feature wool, there might be a slight barnyard-y smell once you unbox the mattress but this dissipates within a few hours.

If you want something slightly firmer than the Avocado Eco Organic mattress, check out the Avocado Green mattress.

Avocado Green is the mattress that Avocado is most known for.

Featuring the same components as the Eco Organic mattress as well as the same certifications, the Avocado Green is more of a medium-firm feel which can be better for strict back and stomach sleepers.

#5. Eco Terra Hybrid Latex

eco terra hybrid latex mattress front edge on wood frame

Pros

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

A vast majority of the population are back sleepers and those who sleep primarily on their backs need something firmer to achieve proper spinal alignment.

The Eco Terra Hybrid Latex mattress comes in two different firmness options the is suitable for sleeper types but especially those who sleep strictly on their backs.

The coil system in the Eco Terra mattress is also fully equipped to provide extra support to heavier-set sleepers.

The mattress is also temperature neutral which means it can help keep you cool when it’s hot and help you keep you warm when it’s cold – perfect for those who live in areas with all four seasons.

Eco Terra Hybrid Latex performance

Although firmer, the Eco Terra Hybrid Latex mattress is more responsive than most and we felt a small amount of movement when we tried it out with a partner.

This mattress is best suited for single sleepers.

We found edge support to be very good in the Eco Terra mattress and if you’re the type of sleeper who likes sleeping close to the edge of the bed, you definitely won’t feel any danger of rolling off the edge of the bed.

The latex foam layers in the Eco Terra mattress offers both responsive support and cushioning pressure relief.

You also won’t feel any sinkage unlike with softer latex mattresses.

Heavier-set sleepers who prefer a firmer latex mattress would do very well with the Eco Terra Hybrid Latex mattress.

You might experience a slight earthy smell upon unboxing and although we found it to last for a good few weeks, this will dissipate over time.

#6. Latex for Less Hybrid Latex Mattress

latex for less hybrid latex mattress bare on upholstered frame

Pros

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

Most latex mattresses – especially hybrid latex mattresses – can cost an arm and a leg and if you’re on a budget, this can be a problem if you’re dead set on getting one.

The Latex for Less Hybrid latex mattress is an affordable latex mattress option (it’s literally in the name) that provides the same comfort and support as more higher end brands on the market.

But don’t think that they’re skimping on quality just because of the cheaper price – Latex for Less uses GOLS certified latex foam in all of their latex mattresses so you can be sure that you’re getting the real deal.

Latex for Less Hybrid Latex performance

When it comes to comfort and pressure relief, we found the Latex for Less Hybrid Latex mattress to be on par with the more expensive and higher end latex mattress brands.

You get maximum pressure relief and responsive support without that stuck in the mud feel making it easier for you to move around while you sleep.

Upon trying the Latex for Less mattress out with a partner, we also found it to perform very well when it comes to minimizing any cross mattress movement.

This makes it a great choice for those who share a bed with a partner (or a pet).

Since it is a hybrid latex mattress, the Latex for Less mattress can provide the extra support needed by those who weigh well over 250 lbs.

The only thing we didn’t like about the Latex for Less Hybrid Latex mattress is its poor edge support, especially if you’re a heavier than average individual.

Again, just like with most latex mattresses made from organic materials, we did experience a slight earthy smell upon unboxing the mattress.

Alternate pick: Latex for Less Natural Latex mattress

latex for less natural latex mattress bare

If you want something with a little more give and a little more contouring, check out the Latex for Less Natural Latex mattress.

The Latex for Less Natural Latex mattress is an all-foam mattress made from latex foam layers.

Slightly softer than the Hybrid Latex mattress, it can provide a more cushioning sleep experience rather than a more responsive one (although latex is already naturally pretty responsive).

That said, since it is an all-foam mattress, the Latex for Less Natural Latex mattress would not be able to give heavier individuals the extra support that they would need.

#7. Awara Natural Hybrid

awara natural hybrid mattress on wooden frame

Pros

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

Ask anyone what typically gives them sleepless nights and chances are the number one answer would be heat.

Unlike memory foam mattresses that are notorious for retaining heat, latex mattresses like the Awara Natural Hybrid mattress are naturally cooling making it the better choice for hot sleepers.

Just like with most organic latex mattresses, the Awara Natural Hybrid mattress offers excellent pressure relief as well as responsive support that’s suitable for even the heaviest of sleepers.

Specs at a glance

Awara Natural Hybrid performance

The Awara Natural Hybrid mattress offers enough support even for heavier-set individuals.

Although it offers enough cushioning and pressure relief, it is on the firmer side of the spectrum making it more suitable for those who sleep on their backs and stomachs.

Side sleepers would find the Awara mattress to be a little too firm and might eat into their main pressure points.

When we tried it out with a partner, we found it to perform fairly well when it comes to lessening motion transfer although if you sleep with a heavier partner, you might feel a small amount of movement.

Edge support is excellent on the Awara Natural Hybrid so if you sleep close to the edge of the bed, you won’t feel as though you’re about to fall off.

The two main components of the Awara Natural Hybrid are its latex foam layer and its support coil system – both excellent at cooling and allowing maximum air flow.

Even without the techy add-ons that other cooling mattress brands have, the Awara Natural Hybrid mattress sleeps extremely cool, making it a solid choice for those who sleep hot.

Upon first unboxing the Awara mattress, we noticed a slight earthy smell (just like other organic mattresses). This is normal and will disappear within a few hours.

#8. SleepEZ Organic Latex mattress

sleep ez organic latex mattress on wood bed frame

Pros

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

One of the very few latex mattresses that is flippable, you can opt for two different firmness levels on the SleepEZ Organic Latex mattress, making it suitable for every sleeper type.

In fact, you can re-arrange the foam layers anytime you like to get a more customized sleeping experience.

You also get the option to choose between Talalay latex and Dunlop latex. Talalay latex is softer whereas Dunlop latex is slightly denser, which makes it a littler firmer.

Whichever latex foam type you choose, you get maximum pressure relief for all your main pressure points making it especially suitable for those who sleep on their sides as well as those who suffer from chronic body pain.

SleepEZ Organic Latex performance

Being an all-foam mattress, we found the SleepEZ Organic Latex mattress to absorb movement pretty well compared to latex hybrid mattresses.

On the same vein, it won’t be able to offer the extra support needed by heavier individuals.

When it comes to edge support, we found the firmer Dunlop latex to offer better edge support than the softer Talalay latex so if you’re an edge sleeper, take note of that.

Plush and contouring than most latex mattresses especially with the soft latex (Talalay), the SleepEZ Organic Latex mattress offers maximum pressure relief especially for those who sleep mostly on their sides although.

Alternate pick: SleepEZ Roma

SleepEZ Roma Mattress

The SleepEz Roma mattress is the more affordable version of the SleepEZ Organic Latex mattress.

You get the same natural latex foam layers but just without the customizable firmness. But…. you do get a soft side and a firm side because (drumroll please) the Roma mattress is also flippable.

This makes the SleepEZ Roma mattress suitable for all sleeping positions.

Why we chose these mattresses

Sure. Organic latex mattresses can cost a pretty penny, we can’t deny that. But buying a mattress is an investment, both for your mental and physical health.

Latex mattresses are also naturally cooling and hypoallergenic and what’s more is that they’re NATURAL – made from organic materials.

For a lot of people, going the natural and organic way is a healthier lifestyle choice, especially in world currently overrun by micro plastics and chemicals.

All the mattresses on our list are made from 100% pure and natural latex, none of the synthetic stuff.

We also took comfort, pressure relief, motion isolation and edge support into consideration just like we do with all of our mattress reviews.

You can learn more about choosing the best latex mattress for your needs and preferences in the following:

FAQs

Are latex mattresses better than memory foam?

This depends on your needs and preferences, honestly. But.. when it comes to features, we can safely say that latex mattresses are better than memory foam in that they last longer, are naturally cooling and hypoallergenic and offer more responsive support. On the other hand, latex mattresses can also be very expensive depending on the brand.

How do I choose a high quality latex mattress?

To choose a high quality latex mattress, you first need to find out how the latex is sourced. Is it natural or synthetic? Natural latex foam is more premium than synthetic latex. Next, you need to see what kind of other materials are used to make the mattress. Are they certified organic? Organic materials take great care and time which usually also translates to a latex mattress being high quality.

How long does a latex mattress last?

Typically, latex mattresses last a little longer than mattresses made from synthetic foam – usually around 15-20 years. Bear in mind that they can only last that long with proper care and maintenance.

Conclusion

The best latex mattresses don’t necessarily have to be super expensive but they do need to be made from 100% pure, natural latex – synthetic latex is a definite no-no.

Naturally cooling, responsive and hypoallergenic, organic latex mattresses are perfect for those who prefer a more natural, responsive bed that’s safe for the entire family.

Latex mattresses come in either all-foam or hybrid constructions, it is up to you to choose which one suits your needs and preferences the best.
