#1. Bear Elite Hybrid

bare elite hybrid innerspring mattress
Bear Elite Hybrid Mattress

Pros

Cons

Why it’s the overall best

The Bear Elite Hybrid is our overall best innerspring mattress because it provides the combined benefits of a traditional innerspring mattress and a comfy memory foam mattressWe also like that it has a tall 14-inch profile that can accommodate most sleeper types regardless of their body weight.

This hybrid mattress comes in three firmness levels and it contains unique materials that aid in cooling and muscle recovery.

Bear Elite Hybrid performance

We gave each version of the Bear Elite Hybrid the following ratings on the mattress firmness scale: Soft (4.5), Medium (6), and Firm (7). I liked the Medium model the most since it gives me the right amount of support and it’s soft enough to relieve pressure points across my body. For reference, I’m 6’2″ and I weigh 170 lbs.

You should opt for the Soft version if you’re a lightweight individual and the Firm version if you’re a plus-size sleeper.

The Elite Hybrid’s thick design means that it has multiple layers of foam to provide comfort and support. We experienced a plush soft feel on top and we felt the responsiveness of the coils as we sank onto its layers when we tried it out. The Bear Elite Hybrid got a high score of 9.8 for pressure relief.

For cooling, the Elite Hybrid has copper-infused memory foam to absorb body heat while also being an anti-microbial material. In addition, this innerspring mattress also has a cover made with Phase Change Material and Celliant fiber which helps with active cooling as well as muscle recovery. We gave the Elite Hybrid a 9.5 for cooling.

In terms of motion isolation, we gave the Elite Hybrid a 9.4 out of 10. Usually, innerspring mattresses are a bit too bouncy, but the Elite Hybrid has several foam layers on top of its pocketed coils to reduce motion transfer.

And as for edge support, the Elite Hybrid garnered a 9.2 out of 10. We found its edge support to be quite solid as opposed to some all-foam mattresses.

Overall, the Bear Elite Hybrid got a performance rating of 9.5 out of 10.

At 13 inches tall, it’s an inch thinner than the Elite Hybrid but it offers almost the same amount of pressure relief and support.

#2. Helix Midnight Luxe

Helix Midnight Luxe

Pros

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

We continue our best innerspring mattress list with Helix’s most popular model – the Midnight Luxe mattress. The Midnight Luxe has won us over because it’s a well-rounded mattress that excels in all areas from comfort and pressure relief to extra support.

Being a medium-firm innerspring mattress, the Midnight Luxe is suitable for all sleeper types including heavier individuals who tend to sleep hot.

Helix Midnight Luxe performance

We rate the Helix Midnight Luxe a 6.5 on the mattress firmness scale. We found it to be right around a medium-firm which is usually suitable for side, back, and stomach sleepers.

However, you should opt for a firmer mattress if you’re a stomach sleeper who weighs over 250 lbs.

Garnering a score of 9.7, the Midnight Luxe mattress did splendidly in our pressure relief test. It has a premium pillow top for initial cushioning, a copper-infused memory foam comfort layer, and another layer of memory foam for deeper pressure relief and contouring.

If you’re a hot sleeper, you should check this mattress out. It has multiple cooling materials such as a GlacioTex cover, copper gel infused foams, and pocketed coils. We found these materials to be effective at drawing away body heat so we gave the Midnight Luxe a 9.4 for cooling.

Both hybrid and innerspring mattresses tend to have more motion transfer than all-foam beds due to having springs. But we found minimal motion transfer on the Midnight Luxe compared to other hybrid mattresses thanks to its individually wrapped coils. The Midnight Luxe got a 9.3 in our motion isolation test.

And in terms of edge support, we gave it a 9.5. I experienced almost no sinkage at all when I tried sleeping near the edges of this bed.

Overall, the Helix Midnight Luxe got a performance rating of 9.5 out of 10.

Pros

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

Next up in our best innerspring mattress lineup is Winkbed’s flagship mattress – the Winkbed OriginalWe like the Winkbed because it’s a highly supportive innerspring mattress that can accommodate all sleeper types.

In addition to that, it’s also one of the best innerspring mattresses that we’ve tested for back pain relief.

The Winkbed performance

The Winkbed mattress is available in three distinct firmness levels ranging from Softer (4.5) to Firmer (7.5). They also offer a bonus option for plus-size sleepers called the Plus which is an extra-firm mattress that we rated 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

Of all the Winkbed versions, we think the Luxury Firm will fit the most individuals regardless of their sleep position.

When it comes to pressure relief, the Softer mattress model performed the best. That said, the Luxury Firm version also provided a good amount of contouring and comfort. We rate the Winkbed’s pressure relief a 9.8 out of 10.

As for cooling, the mattress does have gel memory foam to absorb body heat but it isn’t a legit cooling mattress. We gave the Winkbed mattress a 9.1 for cooling.

Like most innerspring mattresses, the Winkbed mattress does not have the best motion isolation. Despite having individually pocketed coils, we still felt a moderate amount of motion transfer on the mattress. The Winkbed got an 8.9 for motion isolation.

That being said, this mattress does have good edge support. You can maximize the entire surface of the bed and sleep on its edges without losing support. We gave the Winkbed mattress a 9.7 for edge support.

The Winkbed got an overall performance score of 9.4 out of 10.

Pros

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

Continuing our best innerspring mattress list is the Saatva Classic mattressThe Saatva Classic is one of the most popular innerspring mattresses in the online space and we think it’s great for those who prefer their bed to have a more traditional feel.

It’s also really neat that it’s available in two height profiles and three firmness levels so you can choose which model fits you best.

Saatva Classic performance

Our team gave the Saatva Classic versions the following firmness ratings: Plush Soft (4), Luxury Firm (6.5-7), and Firm (8).

We found that each version has a similar bouncy and responsive feel due to the individually pocketed coils and is suitable for all sleeper types including strict back sleepers.

We recommend the Luxury Firm model if you’re an average weight individual. Consider the two other versions if you’re a lightweight person or a bit heavier than average no matter your preferred sleeping position.

If you’re looking for deep pressure relief, the Saatva Classic isn’t for you. It has a more traditional innerspring mattress feel where you immediately feel the responsive coils as you lie on it. We gave the Saatva Classic a 9.2 for pressure relief.

If you tend to sleep hot, we can safely say that the Saatva Classic stays temperature-neutral. Although it doesn’t have active cooling properties, its pocketed coils allow for continuous airflow throughout the mattress. We gave the Saatva Classic an 8.9 for cooling.

As for motion isolation, this innerspring mattress isn’t the best. We experienced a small amount of motion transfer when we tried the mattress. We gave it an 8.7 for motion isolation.

But in terms of edge support, this mattress is excellent. We gave the Saatva Classic a 9.8 for its solid edge support.

Overall, the Saatva Classic innerspring mattress got a performance score of 9.1 out of 10.

We like the Nolah Evolution 15 because it has a high-end hybrid construction that can accommodate individuals who weigh up to 500 lbs. It’s also one of the thickest innerspring mattresses that we’ve tested so far and it’s also great for pressure relief and back pain.

Nolah Evolution 15 performance

All body types and sleeping positions can benefit from the Nolah Evolution 15, as it is available in three distinct firmness levels. We gave each version ratings ranging from Plush (5) to Firm (8). For most average-weight people, we suggest the Plush and Luxury Firm variants; for plus-sized sleepers, we suggest the firmer mattress model.

The Nolah Evolution 15 mattress provided us with a great deal of support and pressure relief when we were lying down. Its several layers of contoured memory foam and 15-inch thickness help release any stress in your body. The Evolution 15 got a 9.7 in our pressure relief test.

To the touch, the Nolah Evolution’s cover is pretty amazing. This is due to the fact that it has an HTC (high thermal conductivity) Euro topper sewn into it, which aids in absorbing body heat. We gave the Evolution 15 a 9.3 for cooling.

In terms of motion transfer, we experienced little to none on the Nolah Evolution 15 mattress. We highly recommend it for couples who don’t want to be disturbed by their partner’s movements at night. This mattress got a 9.6 in our motion isolation test.

As for edge support, we felt well-supported on the edges of the bed. We gave the Nolah Evolution 15 a 9.2 for edge support.

In total, the Nolah Evolution 15 got a performance rating of 9.4 out of 10.

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

If you’re looking for a budget hybrid innerspring mattress, the Emma Hybrid Comfort is one of the best models in the online mattress space. We like that if offers great value and that it’s one of the few budget innerspring mattresses that feature zoned support for proper spinal alignment.

Offering a medium-firm feel, the Emma Hybrid Comfort is suitable for all sleeper types including stomach sleepers.

Emma Hybrid Comfort performance

We found the Emma Hybrid Comfort’s firmness to be right around the industry standard of 6.5 out of 10. We call this medium-firm and it’s the most common firmness level that fits an array of individuals and body types.

However, we do not recommend this mattress for heavyweight stomach sleepers. Your hips might bow into the mattress which could cause lower back pain.

As for pressure relief, this mattress did really well in our test. We felt its memory foam layers conform to our body and its zoned support system kept our spine in alignment. We gave the Emma Hybrid Comfort a 9.6 for pressure relief.

Although the Emma Hybrid Comfort is not actively cooling, it does stay temperature-neutral which is good for hot sleepers. It got a 9 in our cooling test.

If you sleep with a partner who’s a restless sleeper, this mattress is for you. We gave it a 9.1 for its motion isolation capabilities.

Unfortunately, it does fall a bit short when it comes to edge support. We rated the edge support on this mattress 8.8 out of 10.

SweetNight Twilight

Pros

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

The Sweet Night Twilight is one of the best value innerspring mattress models that we’ve tested so far. It got a spot in our best innerspring mattress list because we experienced great comfort and support despite its low price range.

Sweet Night recently added another height option for the Twilight making it available in three heights now instead of two.

Sweet Night Twilight performance

We found all the Sweet Night Twilight versions sit around a 5-7 on the mattress firmness scale. The 14-inch version offers the most support due to its multiple layers but all other models are also suitable for most sleeper types including strict side sleepers.

In terms of pressure relief, we felt some nice contouring on this mattress especially on the thicker versions. The bed’s surface is quilted with pillow top comfort foam which gives you some pressure relief right off the bat. We gave the Sweet Night Twilight a 9.4 for pressure relief.

As for cooling, we think this mattress does a decent job. It is not actively cooling, but it does have gel memory foam and a layer of perforated high-density foam to promote airflow and combat heat retention. We gave the Sweet Night Twilight mattress a 9 for cooling.

If you sleep with a partner, this mattress is a great budget option. It performed really well in both our motion isolation and edge support tests which are the most important factors for couples. We gave the Sweet Night Twilight a 9.3 for motion isolation and a 9.2 for edge support.

It provides long-lasting support and comfort, and it comes in two firmness levels to cater to all sleeper types.

Eco Terra Hybrid Latex Mattress performance

Our team gave the Eco Terra Hybrid Latex mattress a 5 and a 6 out of 10 for the Medium and Medium-Firm models respectively. This makes it a suitable option for most individuals regardless of their preferred sleeping position.

That being said, we suggest that heavier stomach sleepers opt for a firmer and more supportive hybrid mattress.

Personally, I’m a big fan of latex mattresses because of their responsive feel and hypoallergenic nature. When I lay on this mattress, I felt the tension in body disappear because my weight was evenly distributed across the surface. We gave the Eco Terra Hybrid mattress a 9.3 for pressure relief.

In terms of cooling, the Eco Terra Hybrid mattress sleeps temperature-neutral. It didn’t trap my body heat at all so I would recommend it for hot sleepers. This mattress garnered a 9.1 for cooling.

Latex innerspring mattresses typically have high levels of bounce and this mattress is no different. We gave the Eco Terra Hybrid mattress an 8.8 for its motion isolation.

Lastly, we tested out its edge support. It got an edge support score of 9.5 which makes it great for couples.

The Eco Terra Latex Hybrid garnered an overall performance score of 9.2 out of 10.

Why it’s one of the best

The Puffy Lux mattress is the best softer innerspring mattress on our list. We like it because it provides a really nice mix of plush comfort and responsive innerspring support.

This innerspring mattress has a soft foam feel that’s suitable for all sleeper types.

Puffy Lux performance

With a firmness of 6 out of 10, we found the Puffy Lux mattress to be slightly softer than many innerspring mattresses. It’s close to a medium-firm though so we would recommend it for side, back, and stomach sleepers.

The one caveat of the Puffy Lux’s firmness is that it isn’t supportive enough for plus-size stomach sleepers. Try to look at some models in our article on the best mattress for stomach sleepers.

As for pressure relief, this mattress is superb. Its gel-infused memory foam perfectly conformed to our distinct body types to relieve pressure points. We gave the Puffy Lux mattress a 9.6 for pressure relief.

If you’re searching for a cooling bed, the Puffy Lux is a decent option. It has multiple materials that help combat heat retention on the mattress. The Puffy Lux mattress got a 9.1 in our cooling test.

Unlike traditional innerspring mattresses, the Puffy Lux mattress has soft memory foam layers to deaden motion. It garnered a 9.3 in our motion isolation test.

However, we were surprised to see the Puffy Lux fall short in the edge support category. I guess the reinforced edges aren’t effective enough when paired with plusher foams on top. We gave the Puffy Lux an 8.9 for edge support.

Overall, the Puffy Lux got a performance rating of 9.2 out of 10.

Latex for Less Hybrid Latex Mattress performance

The Latex for Less Hybrid Medium version sits at a 5 and the Firm version is around 7.5 out of 10. We recommend the Medium for side and combination sleepers, and the Firm version for back and stomach sleepers.

We also experienced ample cushioning and body-contouring on the mattress. We gave it a pressure relief score of 9.4 out of 10.

As for cooling, the mattress contains pocketed coils and perforated latex to promote air circulation. It’s a great option for those who sleep hot at night. The Latex for Less Hybrid mattress garnered a 9.2 in our cooling test.

The Latex for Less Hybrid showed surprisingly good motion isolation for a latex bed. However, this will depend on the body weight of you and your partner. We gave it a motion isolation score of 9 out of 10.

In terms of edge support, this mattress performed below average for a latex hybrid model. That said, the Firm version was slightly better than the Medium model. We gave the Latex for Less Hybrid an 8.9 for edge support.

FAQs

Does coil count matter?

Yes, the number of coils in a mattress affects its longevity and support level. The higher the coil count, the more durable and supportive a mattress will be.

Are there any disadvantages to an innerspring mattress?

Yes, no mattress type is without disadvantages and innerspring mattresses do have a few caveats. One is high motion transfer due to bouncy coils, and another drawback is the lack of soft cushioning in some more traditional innerspring beds.

Conclusion

We update our best innerspring mattress list every year to keep you up to date on which models offer the best benefits and value. With the dawn of the hybrid mattress design, manufacturers have elevated and improved the innerspring mattresses of old. Today, there are all kinds of combinations such as springs and foam, as well as springs and organic latex.

That’s why we made sure to include the best models of each innerspring bed type. Our overall best innerspring mattress is the Bear Elite Hybrid mattress.
