The thing is, those who are heavier than average may not be able to get the extra support that they would need with the Sweetnight Tri-Folding mattress.

SweetNight Tri-Folding Mattress Performance
The SweetNight Tri-Folding Mattress sits on a 6 on the mattress firmness scale giving it a medium-firm feel.
This firmness level is suitable for all sleeper types from side sleepers to back and stomach sleepers but bear in mind that because it’s rather thin and does not contain a coil unit, it will not provide enough support for those who are heavier-set.
When it comes to pressure relief, we rate it a 9.5 out of 10.
The SweetNight Tri-Folding mattress’ memory foam layer is cushioning and contouring which helps keep pressure off the main pressure points.
We did experience a tiny bit of sinkage when we tried the mattress out but because the mattress is thin it wasn’t significant enough that it was hard to move around.
When it comes to cooling, we rate the SweetNight Tri-Folding mattress a 9.2.
The SweetNight Tri-Folding mattress features open-celled cooling gel-infused foam that helps wick away body heat.
Although the mattress does not contain any active cooling materials, we did experience any excessive heat retention.
We rate the SweetNight Tri-Folding mattress a 9.8 when it comes to motion isolation.
All-foam mattresses, in general, are pretty good at isolating any cross-mattress movement and the SweetNight Tri-Folding mattress definitely falls under that category.
We barely felt any movement when we tried the mattress out with a partner.
When it comes to edge support, we rate the SweetNight Tri-Folding mattress an 8.5.
Compared to traditional mattresses, folding mattresses are almost always on the thinner side which do not really lend themselves well to features such as reinforced edges.
This typically gives them mediocre performance when it comes to edge support. Also, most folding mattresses are used directly on the floor which takes away the need for any support (although you can of course use them with cots or compatible foundations).
Overall, we rate the SweetNight Tri-Folding mattress a 9.2 out of 10 for performance.

#2. Milliard Tri-Fold Memory Foam Mattress
Our experience with Millard Tri-Fold Memory Foam Mattress
Thicker than most mattresses on this list, the Mililard Tri-Fold Memory Foam mattress features premium memory foam that cradles and contours the body hence why it excels in our performance tests especially when it comes to pressure relief.
We also like that it comes with its own storage bag as well as a corresponding fitted sheet so you won’t have to go through all the trouble of looking for a fitted sheet that actually fits your Milliard mattress perfectly.
The only caveat with this mattress though is that it may feel a little too firm for those who sleep predominantly on their sides.

Milliard Tri-Fold Memory Foam Mattress Performance
The Milliard Tri-Fold Memory Foam mattress sits on a 5 on the mattress firmness scale giving it more of a medium feel. This makes the mattress suitable for all sleeper types.
You also get a choice to opt between two different height profiles – 4 inches and 6 inches which is great for those with low mobility who plan to use the mattress on a frame or cot.
When it comes to pressure relief, we rate the Milliard Tri-Fold Memory Foam mattress a 9.6.
While both height profiles of the Milliard Memory Foam mattress offer good pressure relieving support, we found the 6-inch version to offer more contouring due to its thicker foam layer.
If you’re a little heavier than average, opt for the thicker version for more pressure relief.
When it comes to cooling we rate the Milliard Tri-Fold Memory Foam mattress an 8.5.
Regular memory foam has a tendency to trap heat in within the mattress and because the memory foam used in the Milliard mattress is not infused with any cooling materials, we slept a little bit hot on the mattress.
When it comes to motion isolation, we rate the Milliard Tri-Fold Memory Foam mattress a 9.7.
As we’ve mentioned earlier, all-foam mattresses like the Milliard Tri-Fold Memory Foam mattress are excellent at keeping motion transfer at bay.
We barely felt any movement when we tried the folding mattress out with a partner.
When it comes to edge support, we rate the Milliard Tri-Fold Memory Foam mattress a 9.2.
We found edge support to be a little bit better on the thicker version of the Milliard Tri-Fold Memory foam mattress rather than the thinner one (also depending on whether you’d be using the mattress on a frame or not). If you’re someone who likes to sleep close to the edge it’s best to keep that in mind.
We rate the Milliard Tri-Fold Memory Foam mattress a 9.2 for overall performance.

Our experience with Best Choice Products Portable mattress
Sure, foldable mattresses are, by definition, portable but not all of them come with their own carrying cases.
What we liked the most about the Best Choice Products Portable mattress is that it comes with its own carrying case that makes easy to cart around to wherever you need it.
The Best Choice Products Portable mattress scored pretty high in all of our performance tests except in the cooling department – we found that it retained a small amount of heat which is not ideal for those who tend to sleep hot.

The Best Choice Products Portable mattress is a 6.5 on the mattress firmness scale which makes it a medium-firm to firm. Best for stomach and back sleepers, it can also accommodate combination sleepers although strict side sleepers – especially those ones that are lighter than average – might find it to be a bit too firm.
When it comes to pressure relief, we rate the Best Choice Products Portable mattress a 9.3.
Although not made from traditional memory foam, we still experienced ample pressure relief especially in our back and lumbar area when we tried the mattress out.
When it comes to cooling, we rate the Best Choice Products Portable mattress a 7.5.
The foldable mattress retained quite a bit of heat when we laid on the mattress for a significant amount of time.
We do not recommend it to those who tend to sleep extremely hot.

We did not feel any motion transfer whatsoever when we tried the mattress out with a partner making it a good choice for couples or those who share a bed with a pet.

We found edge support to be pretty sturdy on the Best Choice Products Portable mattress.

#4. Novilla Tri-Fold Mattress
Our experience with Novilla Tri-Fold Mattress
Thin and portable, the Novilla Tri-Fold mattress lends itself to many activities that don’t necessarily involve sleeping such as yoga and exercise.
You can even use it as a sofa when all folded up. It can also double up as a play mat in children’s rooms.
Another thing we liked most about the Novilla Tri-Fold mattress is that it’s breathable.
Made from gel-infused memory foam, the Novilla Tri-Fold mattress also features breathable knitted jacquard cover that allows air to flow through freely which also helps keep the mattress stay cool.
Bear in mind though that for heavier individuals, it may feel a little too thin and flimsy.

Novilla Tri-Fold Mattress Performance
The Novilla Tri-Fold mattress sits on a 6 on the mattress firmness scale which makes it a medium-firm mattress. This means it is suitable for all sleeper types including strict stomach and back sleepers.
Because of its thinner construction though, the Novilla foldable mattress might feel a tad too firm for lightweight side sleepers.
We rate the Novilla mattress a 9.3 when it comes to pressure relief.
The mattress’ gel-infused memory foam provided us with more than enough pressure relief when we tried it out while also providing good lumbar and back support.
When it comes to cooling, we rate the Novilla Tri-Fold mattress a 9.7.
Two out of the three components in the Novilla Tri-Fold mattress contain cooling materials such as breathable cotton (in the cover) and cooling gel (in the memory foam comfort layer).
This makes the Novilla Tri-Fold mattress an excellent choice for those who tend to sleep hot.
We rate the Novilla Tri-Fold mattress a 9.8 when it comes to motion isolation.
Both its thinner height profile and all-foam construction worked extremely well together in isolating any cross mattress movement when we tried the mattress out with a partner.
This makes it the perfect choice if you share a bed with a partner or a pet.
We rate the Novilla Tri-Fold mattress a 9.1 when it comes to edge support.
Again, depending on whether you use the mattress on the floor or on a frame or foundation, the edge support does vary but we found it to be pretty sturdy when we tried it out.
We rate the Novilla Tri-Fold mattress a 9.4 for overall performance.

Although suitable for all sleeper types including back and stomach sleepers, it may feel a little too firm if you’re a lightweight side sleeper.
We rate the Avenco Folding mattress a 9.2 when it comes to pressure relief.
There’s no question that the Avenco Folding mattress provides ample pressure relief for back and stomach sleepers due to its medium-firm comfort foam, but strict side sleepers – especially those who weigh less than average – might feel the mattress eating into their main pressure points (your hips and shoulders).
When it comes to cooling we rate the Avenco Folding mattress a 9.3.
Although it does not contain any active cooling materials such as gel foam, the Avenco Folding mattress surprisingly did not retain any heat. We felt VERY comfortable when we tried it out.
We rate the Avenco Folding mattress a 9.6 for motion isolation.
We felt little to no motion transfer on the Avenco Folding mattress when we tried the mattress out with a partner. The medium-firm foam construction did an excellent job at deadening any movement.
We rate the Avenco Folding mattress a 9.3 for edge support.
There’s certainly no danger of rolling off the bed with thinner mattresses like the Avenco Folding mattress.
We rate the Avenco Folding mattress a 9.3 out of 10 for overall performance.

#6. Molblly Folding Mattress

Thinner mattresses usually mean firmer mattresses. But we found the Molblly Folding mattress to be soft enough to be able to give strict side sleepers the pressure relief that they need as evidenced by our performance tests.
Made from high quality memory foam, the Molblly Folding mattress has that unmistakable body contouring feel that only true memory foam can give providing you with an almost weightless sleeping experience.

Molblly Folding Mattress Performance
The Molblly Folding mattress sits on a 4.5-5 on the mattress firmness scale which makes it a medium-soft to medium.
This makes the Molblly Folding mattress a great choice for those who sleep strictly on their sides. For those who prefer sleeping on their backs and stomachs, we recommend choosing the thinner models for firmer support.
We rate the Molblly Folding mattress a 9.7 when it comes to pressure relief.
We actually felt a bit more pressure relief on the 6-inch version of the Molblly Folding mattress due to its thicker memory foam construction.
That’s not to say that the thinner versions don’t offer enough pressure relief – they do – but lightweight side sleepers may find that the thinner versions to be a little too firm.
We rate the Molblly Folding mattress an 8 when it comes to cooling.
The mattress’ true memory foam construction retained a little too much heat for our liking. This wouldn’t be the ideal mattress for those who tend to sleep excessively hot.
We rate the Molblly Folding mattress a 9.8 when it comes to motion isolation.
For all its faults in heat retention, we found the memory foam in the Molblly Folding mattress to do a hell of a good job in deadening any cross mattress movement so we could say with absolute certainty that this would be the perfect choice for couples.
We rate the Molblly Folding mattress a 9.5 when it comes to edge support.
Both the thicker and thinner versions provided good edge support when we tried the mattress out on a foundation.
You won’t find yourself rolling off the bed, that’s for sure. This also means that you get to maximize the entire mattress surface.

#7. Sweetcrispy Folding Mattress
Our experience with Sweetcrispy Folding Mattress
Our performance tests have shown that the Sweetcrispy Folding mattress excels in the areas of portability and durability making it a good all-rounder type of mattress.
The Sweetcrispy Folding mattress can be used as a recliner, a sofa or a bed. But the best thing that we found it can be used for is as a camping mattress.
Made from proprietary gel memory foam, the Sweetcrispy Folding mattress offers pressure relief without any of the sinkage, allowing you to switch between sleeping positions with ease.
But there’s a slight flaw to the Sweetcrispy Folding mattress and that is its tendency to retain heat which makes it a poor choice for those who tend to sleep extremely hot.

Sweetcrispy Folding Mattress Performance
The Sweetcrispy Folding mattress sits on a 6-7 on the mattress firmness scale giving it a medium-firm to firm feel.
Since it comes in two height profiles, we found that the thinner version feels slightly firmer than the thicker version.
While a medium-firm mattress is suitable for all sleeper types, the Sweetcrispy may feel a bit too firm if you sleep strictly on your side (regardless of body weight).
We rate the Sweetcrispy Folding mattress a 9.4 when it comes to pressure relief.
The Sweetcrispy Folding mattress provided more than enough pressure relief when sleeping on our backs and stomachs. Strict side sleepers may find the mattress to be a bit too firm, however.
We rate the Sweetcrispy Folding mattress a 7.5 when it comes to cooling.
Although Sweetcrispy claims that their proprietary memory foam is infused with cooling gel, we did not find that to be accurate.
We slept pretty hot when we tried the Sweetcrispy Folding mattress out. If you’re an extremely hot sleeper, it would be best to steer clear.
We rate the Sweetcrispy Folding mattress a 9.7 when it comes to motion isolation.

How we picked these mattresses
As always when we pick and choose the best mattresses for particular conditions, we perform a series of rigorous tests to determine whether they reach not only the industry standards but our own strict standards as well.
- Pressure relief and comfort – Everyone has pressure points and depending on the sleeping position, these pressure points can be affected by the firmness and feel of the mattress (which we touch on more below). People wrongfully assume that a soft, plush mattress is the best mattress but in fact, comfort and pressure relief can only be achieved by choosing the right mattress firmness for your sleeping position and body type.
- Cooling – The main cause of sleeplessness is actually heat. When it comes to mattresses, it’s the materials that actually cause heat retention and the number one culprit for that is traditional memory foam. These days, mattress brands often make their own foams that are infused with active cooling materials which can help do away with any heat retention.
- Motion isolation – If you’re a light sleeper and you share a bed with a partner, a bed with good motion isolation is crucial. Most all-foam mattresses offer good motion isolation by acting like a shock absorber of sorts whereas innerspring beds tend to amplify movement.
- Edge support – Most traditional mattresses especially hybrid mattresses feature reinforced edges for extra edge support. This not only helps with stability and durability of the mattress but is also important for those who want to maximize the use of their mattress’ surface.
- Materials – A whole host of materials come into play when it comes to mattress construction. Foam (from memory foam, polyfoam, latex), springs, wool and cotton blends and even air pods (in the case of smart beds). These not only dictate a mattress value but also its performance.
- Mattress firmness and corresponding sleeping position – Mattress firmnesses range from extra soft to extra firm. The industry standard of measuring mattress firmness goes from 1 to 10 with 1 being the softest to 10 being the firmest. The rule of thumb is, choose a mattress that’s softer if you’re a strict side sleeper or combination sleeper and choose a mattress that’s firmer if you’re a back and stomach sleeper.

FAQs
4 inches is the industry standard for most folding mattresses although their height profiles run the gamut from 3 inches to 6 inches.
Not all folding mattresses are tri-fold. Some foldable mattresses can be folded into 4 parts.
Conclusion
Not all foldable mattresses come as tri-folds, although that is the industry standard. The best foldable mattresses offer convenience, portability and comfort especially when you’re short on space.
Foldable mattresses also lend themselves to other practical uses such as a sofa, an exercise mat or a playmat for kids.
Although thinner than traditional mattresses, the best folding mattresses such as the ones on this lost should also offer the same features and levels of comfort such as pressure relief, cooling capabilities and edge support.
