Why it’s the overall best

Not only is Beautyrest owned by one of the biggest (and oldest!) mattress companies in the United States, it is also touted as one of the most luxurious brands.

But that’s not why we think it’s the best.

The Beautyrest Skyrise Air Bed features a mattress top that mimics a plush pillow top on regular mattresses that gives it that distinct pillow top feel that’s not common with air mattresses. It also features a unique coil in coil design that gives it that same pressure relieving comfort as a regular innerspring bed.

Made from puncture-resistant vinyl, the Beautyrest Skyrise Air Bed is tough, durable and made to last which is perfect to use around the furry, little devils you have running around your house.

You can also use the Beautyrest Skyrise Air Bed either indoors (as an extra bed for guests) or outdoors (for camping).

The only thing that may put some people off is that it’s pretty high for an inflatable air bed and may cause some difficulty getting in and out of bed for those with limited mobility.

Beautyrest Skyrise Raised Air Bed performance

The Beautyrest Skyrise Air Bed sits on a 6.5 on the mattress firmness scale giving it a medium-firm feel. This makes it suitable for all sleeper types including strict back and stomach sleepers.

Although the Skyrise Air Bed features a coil in coil design, we do not recommend for it to be used long-term for those who weigh well above 250 lbs as this may cause lumbar and spinal issues in the long run. Air mattresses are not meant to be used as your daily driver anyway but you already knew that.

We rate the Beautyrest Skyrise Air Bed a 9.6 when it comes to pressure relief.

The combination of the mattress’ coil in coil design and air offers a unique feeling of pressure relief and comfort that somehow feels pretty similar to the support and comfort of a regular innerspring mattress.

We rate the Beautyrest Skyrise Air Bed 9.2 when it comes to cooling.

Since most air mattresses don’t contain any man-made foam, the risk of heat retention is slim to none so an air mattress like the Beautyrest Skyrise Air Bed is perfect for those who tend to sleep hot.

We rate the Beautyrest Skyrise Air Bed a 9.1 when it comes to motion isolation.

Air mattresses can be a bit tricky when it comes to motion isolation. Fill it up with a little too less air and you and your partner are in quicksand and fill it up with a little too much air and you’re both bouncing off the bed. The key is to fill the air mattress with just enough air for good motion isolation.

We rate the Beautyrest Skyrise Air Bed a 9.5 when it comes to edge support.

The Beautyrest Skyrise Air Bed features raised edges all around the perimeter of the mattress which helps with edge support and most importantly, definitely helps you keep from rolling off the bed.

#2. Serta Raised Air Mattress

Serta Raised Air Mattress bare
Serta Raised Air Mattress

Pros

  • Made with heavy-duty, puncture resistant PVC
  • Comes with two built-in air pumps
  • Can be used both indoors and outdoors
  • Comes with own carry bag

Cons

  • Can be pretty pricey compared to other air mattress brands
  • Extra tall side walls can make it difficult for some people to get in and out of bed

Why it’s one of the best

Ever get annoyed by losing air and pressure when you sleep on an air mattress? The Serta Raised Air mattress eliminates that problem with its dual built-in air pumps.

In the event that your air mattress loses any steam at any point of the night (or whenever you’re sleeping on it), the secondary pump automatically fills up any of the lost air so you maintain the same air volume and pressure all throughout. You don’t even have to lift a finger.

The Serta Raised Air mattress also features circular coils that offer extra support and pressure relief that is similar to the support and comfort of a traditional mattress that contains both foam and innerspring coils.

If you’re worried that the dual air pumps are going to be pretty noisy when inflating or deflating, fret not. The pumps are silent, even when it inflates any lost air automatically.

Serta Raised Air Mattress performance

We found the Serta Raised Air mattress to be around a medium to medium-firm when it comes to firmness. You do get the option to choose your firmness level depending on the amount of air you put into the air mattress. No matter your preferred sleeping position, you get the firmness level that you need and prefer.

We rate the Serta Raised Air mattress a 9.8 when it comes to pressure relief.

Plush or firm, you get the option to choose the desired firmness level you want and need to get the exact amount of pressure relief that you need depending on your desired sleeping position.

We rate the Serta Raised Air mattress a 9.6 when it comes to cooling.

As we’ve said before, air mattresses do not contain any man-made foam so you really aren’t in any trouble of any heat retention making the Serta Raised Air mattress a good choice if you’re a hot sleeper.

We rate the Serta Raised Air mattress a 9.5 when it comes to motion isolation.

Depending on the firmness level that you choose, you would get varying levels of motion transfer on the Serta Raised Air mattress but it is negligible enough to not notice it unless you share a bed with someone who’s significantly heavier than you are.

We rate the Serta Raised Air mattress a 9.6 when it comes to edge support.

The Serta Raised Air mattress features raised side walls that help provide extra edge support while also helping with keeping any bedding that you place on the mattress stay firmly in place.

#3. Intex Dura-Beam Airbed

Intex Dura-Beam Airbed bare
Intex Dura-Beam Airbed

Pros

  • Made with fiber-tech construction
  • Velvety mattress surface
  • Intex has a dedicated customer service team to address any concerns
  • Water resistant

Cons

  • Pump is sold separately
  • Does not come with carrying case

Why it’s one of the best

For something that costs less than 50 bucks, the Intex Dura-Beam Airbed can hold its own against the more expensive air mattress options out there.

Made from a blend of PVC, rayon and PET that’s puncture-proof, the Intex Dura-Beam Airbed is guaranteed to be scratch-proof, even from cats with a penchant for gouging everything in sight.

The Intex Dura-Beam features a fiber-tech construction which means it contains thousands of high-strength polyester fibers that can withstand a lot of weight and pressure without losing its stability or comfort.

The Intex Airbed also features a velvety sleeping surface that adds comfort to the bed while also helping keep any bedding you put on top of it in place.

There are a few things though that we didn’t like about the Intex Dura-Beam Airbed and it’s that it does not come with a pump nor its own carrying case which is, to be quite honest, a hassle. But hey, I guess we know where they cut corners to get us the price we pay for – and at least we know, it’s not the bed.

Intex Dura-Beam Airbed performance

The Intex Dura-Beam Airbed sits on a 6 on the mattress firmness scale giving it a medium-firm feel. Just like with traditional mattresses, a medium-firm mattress is suitable for all sleeper types from side sleepers to strict stomach and back sleepers.

Air mattresses differ slightly in terms of being suitable for heavier-set individuals. While we always say that those who weigh over 200 lbs should always opt for hybrid mattresses, there literally is no other option when it comes to air mattresses. Also, air mattresses should not be used long-term so even though the Dura-Beam Airbed does not contain neither foam nor coils, it’s still ok to use by heavier-set individuals in the short-term.

We rate the Intex Dura-Beam Airbed a 9.5 when it comes to pressure relief.

Even though you don’t really get to choose the firmness level of the Intex Dura-Beam Airbed by inflating and deflating like some other air mattresses, the medium-firm feel of the Intex Dura-Beam Airbed offers more than enough comfort and pressure relief for all sleeper types.

We rate the Intex Dura-Beam Airbed a 9.4 when it comes to cooling.

Like most air mattresses, the Intex Dura-Beam Airbed does not really retain any heat since it does not contain any man-made foam. Hot sleepers can sleep comfortably knowing that any heat that their body gives off will dissipate immediately.

We rate the Intex Dura-Beam Airbed a 9.5 when it comes to motion isolation.

We did not experience any significant amount of motion transfer when we tried the Intex Dura-Beam Airbed out with a partner making it a good choice for those who share a bed. However, if you inflate the mattress with less air than specified, you might experience a little bit of bounce so be sure to follow proper inflating instructions.

We rate the Intex Dura-Beam Airbed a 9.2 when it comes to edge support.

The Intex Dura-Beam Airbed does not feature any extra edge support such as raised edges and although we did not exactly roll off the mattress, it might be an issue for those who like sleeping close to the edge of the bed.

#4. Active Era Premium

Active Era Premium bare
Active Era Premium

Pros

  • Good edge support
  • Puncture-resistant waterproof soft top
  • Comes with raised pillow
  • Features an I-beam structure

Cons

  • Not suitable for heavier-set couples who share a bed
  • You need to inflate the mattress a few times

Why it’s one of the best

If you’re looking for an air mattress that’s high profile and cat-proof, look no further than the Active Era Premium air mattress.

Built specifically for the outdoors (but can be used indoors as well), the Active Era Premium air mattress is made from puncture-proof PVC and features a flocked top for extra comfort.

The Active Era Premium air mattress also features structured air coils that function just like innerspring coils providing both stability and responsive support.

Few little things we didn’t like about the Active Era Premium air mattress though: one, it really isn’t suitable for heavier-set couples and two is that it may take you a few tries to get the inflation right to the firmness level that would suit you.

Active Era Premium performance

The Active Era Premium air mattress sits on a 6.5 on the mattress firmness scale giving it a medium-firm feel. This makes it suitable for all sleeper types including strict back and stomach sleepers.

We do not recommend the Active Era Premium air mattress to those who share a bed with a partner however, especially those who share a bed with a partner heavier than they are as the air mattress won’t be able to fully support their combined weight.

We rate the Active Era Premium air mattress a 9.6 when it comes to pressure relief.

Once you get your desired firmness/inflation levels right, comfort and pressure relief in the Active Era Premium air mattress is on par with that of a medium-firm hybrid mattress – responsive and pressure-relieving.

We rate the Active Era Premium air mattress a 9.3 when it comes to cooling.

Since the Active Era Premium air mattress does not contain any foam, there really is no danger of heat retention with the mattress making it a good choice for those who tend to sleep hot.

We rate the Active Era Premium air mattress a 9.5 when it comes to motion isolation.

Although we don’t really recommend the Active Era Premium air mattress for couples, we did find it to have pretty good motion isolation when we tested it out but for long-term couples use, we suggest something a bit more hefty when it comes to weight capacity.

We rate the Active Era Premium air mattress a 9.6 when it comes to edge support.

The Active Era Premium air mattress features raised edges that not only provides extra edge support but also helps keep any sheets you place on top of it in place.

#5. RGA Air Bed

RGA Air Bed bare
RGA Air Bed

Pros

  • Automatic inflation
  • Comes with carrying pouch
  • Perfect for camping
  • Made with thick composite PVC

Cons

  • Poor edge support
  • Can be pricey for some

Why it’s one of the best

Portable and very versatile, the RGA Air Bed makes our list because it’s also one of the most durable air mattresses out there and how could it not be, I mean, it’s actually made for the great outdoors.

Made from high quality PVC, the RGA Air Bed also features reinforced stitching that offers strength and tear resistance – perfect for those clawy claws.

The inflation of the RGA Air Bed is automatic which means there’s no need for you to use an external pump, it’s actually already built into the air bed.

What disappoints us a little is that for its price, the RGA Air Bed has pretty poor edge support since it does not really have any raised edges.

Specs at a glance

RGA Air Bed performance

The RGA Air Bed has a firmness level of around a 5.5 which is a medium on the mattress firmness scale. This makes it suitable for all sleeper types including those who sleep strictly on their sides

The RGA Air Bed also has a weight capacity of 800 lbs which means it can hold two adults very comfortably.

We rate the RGA Air Bed a 9.7 when it comes to pressure relief.

The RGA Air Bed’s medium firmness level provides more than enough comfort and pressure relief for all sleeping positions, including combination sleepers.

We rate the RGA Air Bed a 9.6 when it comes to cooling.

Like all air mattresses, the RGA Air Bed does not contain any manmade foam so it would not retain any body heat making it a good option for hot sleepers.

We rate the RGA Air Bed a 9.5 when it comes to motion isolation.

When inflated correctly, the RGA Air Bed has very good motion isolation. We did not experience any motion transfer when we tried the mattress out with a partner.

We rate the RGA Air Bed a 9 when it comes to edge support.

As we’ve said, this is where the RGA Air Bed lets us down – since it does not feature any raised edges, we found the edge support to be almost non-existent.

#6. Intex TruAire TPU

Intex TruAire TPU bare
Intex TruAire TPU

Pros

  • Specifically made for extra rugged terrain
  • Puncture-resistant
  • PVC-free
  • Suitable for all sleeper types

Cons

  • May be too low-profile for some people
  • Not suitable for couples

Why it’s one of the best

If you do not want any PVC anywhere within your vicinity, the Intex TruAire TPU would be the air mattress for you.

Made from premium quality TPU material, the Intex TruAire TPU is an air mattress that’s PVC-free which means it’s made without phthalates, BPA and chlorine making it ultimately better for the environment.

The Intex TruAire TPU also features a fiber tech construction that’s laminated which makes it extra durable and puncture-resistant – crucial especially if you camp out with your pets.

Lightweight and portable, the Intex TruAire TPU is made specifically for those who like to camp out in rugged terrain but you can also use it within the comfort of your own home (or backyard).

But since the Intex TruAire is pretty lightweight and low-profile, it can only hold up to a certain amount of weight so we do not recommend it for those who share a bed.

Specs at a glance

Thickness levels 8 and half inches
Firmness levels Medium
Materials TPU material, Quickfill USB air pump, carry bag
Free trial period 30 days
Warranty length N/A

Intex TruAire TPU performance

The Intex TruAire TPU sits squarely on a 5 on the mattress firmness scale which gives it a true medium feel. This means no matter what your preferred sleeping position is, the Intex TruAire TPU would still provide you with both comfort and pressure relief.

As we’ve mentioned, the weight capacity of the Intex TruAire TPU is fairly low and we would not recommend it for couples or those who share a bed.

We rate the Intex TruAire TPU a 9.7 when it comes to pressure relief.

You would think that a thinner air mattress would not do so well when it comes offering good pressure relief but the Intex TruAire TPU provides enough comfort and support to help alleviate pressure from any of the main pressure points.

We rate the Intex TruAire TPU a 9.6 when it comes to cooling.

I may sound like a broken record at this point but the Intex TruAire TPU does not contain any manmade foam so it would not, at any point, retain any body heat that would cause any spikes in temperature when you are asleep.

We rate the Intex TruAire TPU a 9.4 when it comes to motion isolation.

Although we do not recommend the Intex TruAire TPU for couples, it does offer pretty good motion isolation so maybe you can share the bed with your cat (we won’t judge).

We rate the Intex TruAire TPU a 8.7 when it comes to edge support.

Although the Intex TruAire TPU wows us in almost every other feature, edge support is sadly not one of them hence why we give it a pretty low rating but then again, why would you be sleeping on the edge of your bed when you’re out camping in rugged terrain?

#7. Airefina

Airefina air mattress bare
Airefina

Pros

  • Good for couples
  • Comes in two different height levels
  • Puncture-resistant
  • Comes with own carrying bag

Cons

  • May be too soft for heavier-set stomach sleepers
  • Inflation can be a little noisy

Why it’s one of the best

If you’re part of a couple and want to share an air mattress, the Airefina air mattress would be your best bet. With a weight capacity of up to 750 lbs, the Airefina air mattress can comfortably hold a small family of 3.

Puncture-resistant and wear-resistant, the Airefina air mattress is made from a newer form of PVC that features K80 resin which helps make the mattress more durable and sturdy.

The Airefina air mattress also features a multi-layer flocked top that’s soft to the touch which adds an almost pillowtop-like feel to the entire mattress.

Because of that added plushness though, the Airefina air mattress might not be the best option for stomach sleepers who weigh more than average as it may throw their spinal alignment out of whack.

Specs at a glance

Thickness levels 13 inches, 18 inches

Airefina performance

The Airefina air mattress has a true medium feel that skews slightly soft making it an especially good choice for those who sleep predominantly on their sides. Although it also is suitable for all other sleeping positions, heavier-set stomach sleepers may find the air mattress to be a little too soft to be able to achieve proper spinal alignment so if you are one, it is best to keep that in mind.

With a weight capacity of 750 lbs, the Airefina air mattress can definitely accommodate two average sized adults plus a small child (if you have one).

We rate the Airefina air mattress a 9.8 when it comes to pressure relief.

Out of all the mattresses on our list, the Airefina air mattress offers the most plushness and plushness equates to superior pressure relief, especially for strict side sleepers.

We rate the Airefina air mattress a 9.5 when it comes to cooling.

I’m going to sound like a broken record at this point but you know what I’m going to say – because it’s an air mattress and does not contain any manmade foam, the Airefina air mattress would not be heat-retentive and would be pretty cool to sleep on.

We rate the Airefina air mattress a 9.6 when it comes to motion isolation.

We barely felt any cross mattress movement when we tested out the Airefina air mattress with a partner making it an excellent choice for those who share a bed.

We rate the Airefina air mattress a 9.5 when it comes to edge support.

The Airefina air mattress features flocked and raised (like, totally raised) edges which means stellar edge support. There’s no danger of rolling off the Airefina air mattress at any time.

#8. MoKo

MoKo mattress bare
MoKo

Pros

  • Good for those who suffer from back pain
  • Suitable for couples
  • Puncture-resistant
  • Suitable for all sleeper types

Cons

  • Inflation and deflation can be a little noisy
  • May be too soft for some stomach sleepers

Why it’s one of the best

Who says you can’t use an air mattress if you’re suffering from back pain? The MoKo air mattress is the one for you.

Featuring a honeycomb structure that offers consistent firmness all throughout the mattress surface, the MoKo air mattress provides not only comfort and support but also helps with proper spinal alignment which is crucial for those who suffer from back pain.

Made from heavy-duty PVC, the MoKo air mattress is tear-proof and puncture-proof so you can rest easy even though you’ve got your furry friends with claws jumping all over you.

Stomach sleepers beware though – the MoKo air mattress might feel a little too soft for it to give you the proper spinal support that you would need.

MoKo performance

The MoKo air mattress sits on 5.5 on the mattress firmness scale, giving it a medium feel. While it’s suitable for all sleeper types including side and combination sleepers, it may be a little too soft for strict stomach sleepers who need extra spinal support.

With a weight capacity of up to 661 lbs, the MoKo air mattress can comfortably accommodate couples or those who share a bed with a pet.

We rate the MoKo air mattress a 9.6 when it comes to pressure relief.

The 100% soft flocked material of the MoKo mattress offers a comfortable yet supportive mattress surface that offers good pressure relief while the double layer air chambers helps with proper spinal alignment making it a great option for those with back problems.

We rate the MoKo air mattress a 9.5 when it comes to cooling.

Yes, we’re going to say it again (you thought I wouldn’t huh) – without the presence of any manmade foam, the MoKo air mattress won’t be hot to sleep on which is perfect for all you hot sleepers out there.

We rate the MoKo air mattress a 9.7 when it comes to motion isolation.

You’d think the patented air chambers of the MoKo mattress would add a little bounce to the air mattress but we barely felt any motion transfer when we tested the mattress out with a partner.

We rate the MoKo air mattress a 9.6 when it comes to edge support.

We’re a big fan of raised edges on air mattresses and the MoKo air mattress features substantially raised edges so you should face no problems when it comes to extra edge support.

#9. Simpli Comfy

Simpli Comfy air mattress bare
Simpli Comfy

Pros

  • Simple yet sturdy construction
  • Waterproof and puncture-proof
  • Features suction cup stabilizer bottom
  • Suitable for all sleeper types

Cons

  • Not suitable for outdoor use
  • Not suitable for couples

Why it’s one of the best

If you’re looking for something simple, look no further than the Simpli Comfy air mattress (I know, I know, the name says it all).

Made from heavy-duty PVC that’s puncture-proof, the Simpli Comfy air mattress features no bells and whistles except for up to 40 internal air boils that provides the only support that you would want and need from an air mattress.

The one click, built-in air pump fully inflates the Simpli Comfy mattress in just under 3 minutes which means you’ve got a comfortable bed in no time at all – perfect for those times when you’ve got unexpected guests.

The only caveat with the Simpli Comfy air mattress is that it is only meant for indoor use.

Simpli Comfy performance

The Simpli Comfy mattress is a 6 on the mattress firmness scale which gives it a medium-firm feel. Medium-firm mattresses are suitable for all sleeper types including back and stomach sleepers.

However, we do not recommend the Simpli Comfy air mattress for those who share a bed as it would not offer them the extra support that they would need.

We rate the Simpli Comfy air mattress a 9.6 when it comes to pressure relief.

The air chambers in the Simpli Comfy air mattress offers considerable comfort and support that helps alleviate any pressure off the body’s main pressure points no matter your preferred sleeping position.

We rate the Simpli Comfy air mattress a 9.5 when it comes to cooling.

Just like with other air mattresses, the Simpli Comfy mattress does not contain any manmade foam that can retain heat like there’s no tomorrow which makes the Simpli Comfy air mattress a good choice for those who tend to sleep hot.

We rate the Simpli Comfy air mattress a 9.6 when it comes to motion isolation.

Although we do not recommend the Simpli Comfy air mattress for couples since it won’t offer the extra support that they would need, we still had to test it out for motion transfer and we have to say, it performed pretty well considering.

We rate the Simpli Comfy air mattress a 9.4 when it comes to edge support.

We won’t say it’s the best, but the Simpli Comfy air mattress still provided us with enough edge support that we felt fairly safe to lay close to the edge of the bed.

#10. Fanttik OQ22

Fanttik OQ22
Fanttik OQ22

Pros

  • No plasticky, PVC smell
  • Suitable for couples
  • Suitable for all sleeper types
  • Punture-resistant

Cons

  • Edge support could be better
  • Inflation and deflation can be a little noisy

Why it’s one of the best

Let’s face it – air mattresses made with PVC can smell strongly of plastic and at times, can take a very long time to fade away.

If you’re sensitive to smells, check out the Fanttik OQ22 air mattress. Made with O’Smell technology that removes that plasticky scent, the Fanttik OQ22 air mattress also features a vertical coil column structure that gives the air mattress extra support akin to having a built-in bed foundation.

You also have the option to change the firmness of the Fanttik OQ22 air mattress simply by adding more air if you want a firmer bed or lessening the air volume (without compromising its integrity) if you want a softer mattress which I think is a neat little trick that makes the air mattress suitable for all sleeper types.

Thing is though, inflating the mattress can be a little noisy but we can all live with that, can’t we?

Fantikk OQ22 performance

The Fanttik OQ22 air mattress sits on a 5-6 on the mattress firmness scale giving it a medium to medium-firm feel. As we’ve mentioned previously, you can alter the mattress’ firmness slightly by adding or subtracting a little air to make it softer or firmer to suit your preferred sleeping position.

With a weight capacity of 720 lbs, the Fanttik OQ22 can certainly accommodate couples or those who share their bed with a pet.

We rate the Fanttik OQ22 air mattress a 9.6 when it comes to pressure relief.

Firmer or softer, you have the option to choose with the Fanttik OQ22 air mattress so you get the exact pressure relief that you need for your preferred sleeping position.

We rate the Fanttik OQ22 air mattress a 9.5 when it comes to cooling.

Alright, alright, this is the last time we’re going to say it, don’t worry – the Fanttik OQ22 air mattress does not contain any manmade foam hence it won’t retain any body heat coming off you so you won’t be in any danger of sleeping too hot.

We rate the Fanttik OQ22 air mattress a 9.8 when it comes to motion isolation.

We did not experience any amount of motion transfer when we tried the air mattress out with a partner making the Fanttik OQ22 air mattress a solid choice for couples.

We rate the Fanttik OQ22 air mattress a 9.5 when it comes to edge support.

With its flocked and raised edges, there’s no surprise that the Fanttik OQ22 provides great edge support so if you’re a weirdo like me who likes sleeping close to the edge of the bed, this one’s for you.

How we chose these mattresses

Just like we pick and choose the best traditional mattresses like memory foam mattresses or hybrid mattresses, we chose these cat-proof air mattresses with these important points in mind:

  • Firmness level/Sleeping position – These two criteria go hand in hand hence we grouped them together. For every sleeping position there’s a corresponding firmness level that provides you with the right amount of comfort and pressure relief. Softer mattresses are best for those who sleep on their sides while firmer mattresses are best for those who sleep on their backs and stomachs.
  • Comfort and Pressure Relief – You don’t want a bed that’s uncomfortable, do you so you choose a mattress that, once again, corresponds to your preferred sleeping position.
  • Cooling – While mattresses that contain manmade foam have a tendency to retain heat, air mattresses do not so most air mattresses are perfectly suitable for those who sleep hot.
  • Motion Isolation – If you share a bed with a partner, motion isolation is one important factor especially if you’re the type of sleeper who wakes up at even the smallest of movement. We chose these air mattresses with the best motion isolating properties.
  • Edge support – While one would think edge support is sort of a give or take criterion, it is actually pretty important for those who like to sleep close to the edge of the bed. You don’t want to find yourself on hard ground do you (especially if you’re camping outdoors).
  • Materials – Most air mattresses are made up of PVC material and we chose the highest quality PVC air mattresses we could find that’s puncture-resistant, waterproof and easy to clean.
  • Affordability – Just like traditional mattresses, air mattresses run the gamut of the price spectrum when it comes to affordability and we’ve included a wide range of price points for you to choose from.

How can I protect my air mattress from cats?

Cats damage air beds. That is a fact.

That’s not to say all cats do, but every cat worth its cuteness comes with claws and there is no denying that fact. May it also be known that we here at Sleepline do not condone the act of declawing your animals.

Now, the best tip to protect your mattress (or furniture) from being a cat’s own personal little scratching post substitute is to train your cat from a young age to stick to actual scratching posts.

Easier said than done, I know. We also know that some cats can come into your life when they are way older than training age and may have certain ways and habits already set. This is where it can get a little hairy.

But… Definitely not hopeless.

Here are a few tips on how to protect your shiny, new air mattress from becoming your cat’s favorite toy:

  1. Keep your cat’s claws short and groomed. If you can’t do it yourself, you may want to take your pet to the groomers for a little trim. You, your new air bed and your leather couch can thank us later.
  2. Invest in furniture covers and mattress protectors.
  3. Remember that every cat has that primal urge to scratch things. Since they are (presumably) indoors and not out in the wild with infinite access to trees, you might want to invest in a proper cat scratching post. Or you can even build a simple one yourself.
  4. Keep your cat entertained with daily play. In other words, tire ’em out. If all else fails, get them high on some catnip.
  5. If your cat is in that cute, trainable kitten stage, train them to keep off of certain pieces of furniture. YouTube is your friend for tips and tricks on training pets. Be forewarned, this can be way beyond intermediate level and you may want to enlist the help of a friend who also just happens to be a cat whisperer.
  6. For cats with extreme behavioral issues, veterinary advice must be sought.

Conclusion

You don’t have to be scared of air mattresses, especially if you’re a cat mom/dad. There are a wide range of cat-proof air mattresses to choose from that can suit your lifestyle, budget and sleeping preference (as well as the number of feline overlords you may have).

Just like traditional mattresses, air mattresses can offer you pressure relief, comfort and support and are a convenient way of keeping comfortable temporarily.
