#1. Helix Midnight Luxe

Helix Midnight Luxe mattress
Helix Midnight Luxe

Pros

Cons

Why it’s the overall best

First up in our best mattress for fibromyalgia list is Helix’s most popular model: the Midnight Luxe mattress. The Midnight Luxe is our overall best pick because it excels in all areas (and we do mean all) and it provides pain relief for all sleeping positions.

It’s an excellent mattress for fibromyalgia since it has a medium-firm feel that offers pressure relief as well as responsive support. For more information, read the full overview below.

Helix Midnight Luxe performance

Sitting at a 6.5 on the mattress firmness scale, the Midnight Luxe has a medium-firm feel that’s ideal for fibromyalgia sufferers.

We found it to be suitable for any sleeping position whether back, side, stomach, or combination sleeper.

The Midnight Luxe is also a great mattress for fibromyalgia sufferers that have sleep apnea.

Its soft copper-infused memory foam layer provides ample cushioning and sinkage for side sleeping which is the recommended sleep position for individuals with sleep apnea.

While in the area of responsiveness, we gave the Midnight Luxe a 9.6.

Although I did sink a bit into the comfort layer, I did not find it hard to move around the mattress and switch positions. Ease of movement on a mattress is important for combination sleepers and those who have mobility issues.

As for its cooling properties, we gave the Midnight Luxe mattress a 9.4.

It contains multiple active cooling materials that effectively kept my body cool as I slept on the mattress. This makes it a good choice for hot sleepers with fibromyalgia.

Next, we did a motion isolation test in which the Midnight Luxe got a 9.3.

This is a pretty great result for a memory foam mattress that contains innerspring coils. You should consider this bed if you sleep with a partner who’s a restless sleeper.

Finally, the Midnight Luxe got a 9.5 in our edge support test.

This mattress has solid edge support. I felt well-supported and experienced very little sinkage as I sat on the edge of the bed.

The Helix Midnight Luxe mattress gets an overall performance rating of 9.5 out of 10.

#2. Saatva RX

Saatva RX mattress fibromyalgia relief

Pros

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

Based on our test results, we believe the Saatva RX is the best mattress for fibromyalgia sufferers who are looking for a high-profile, luxury option.

This mattress made it to our list because it has a premium hybrid construction that’s specifically designed to help relieve pressure and pain from your body.

The Saatva RX has a medium-firm feel and it also has cooling properties to give sleepers with fibromyalgia the best sleep possible.

Saatva RX performance

We rated the Saatva RX a 6 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale.

It’s just a touch softer than medium-firm (6.5) and it offers a lot of comfort and cushioning as well as sturdy support from the coil unit.

We recommend the Saatva RX for most individuals regardless of your preferred sleep position.

However, we found that plus-size stomach sleepers might find their hips sinking into the mattress and putting their spine out of alignment.

Our team gave the Saatva RX a 9.9 for pressure relief.

It got an almost-perfect score and it’s one of the very best pressure-relieving beds we’ve ever tested (and I stand by that). I felt its foam layers cradle my pressure points and both the micro-coil and pocketed coil units helped me maintain a healthy spinal alignment.

The Saatva RX is great for relieving chronic pain at multiple sites on the body because it evenly distributes your body weight for maximum pressure relief.

We definitely recommend it and we think its significant benefits for fibromyalgia make it worth the hefty price.

We gave the Saatva RX a 9.5 for responsiveness.

I didn’t experience any difficulty switching positions on the mattress which makes the Saatva RX a great choice for those who hate that stuck in the mud feel most associated with regular memory foam mattresses.

In terms of cooling, the Saatva RX scored a 9.5 out of 10.

Unlike traditional memory foam which retains body heat, the Saatva RX mattress has a blend of gel-infused memory foam, cooling graphite foam, pocketed coils and phase change material to help keep you cool. This mattress is an excellent choice for hot sleepers.

The are two crucial factors which affect the sleep quality of couples and these are motion isolation and edge support.

The Saatva RX got satisfactory but not great scores on both motion isolation and edge support with an 8.9 and a 9.3 respectively.

I felt a tiny bit of movement when I tried the mattress out with a partner. As for edge support, I did feel supported while lying down but I experienced excessive sinkage while sitting on the edge of the bed.

Overall, the Saatva RX received a performance rating of 9.4 out of 10.

It’s a great choice for people with fibromyalgia pain who want a more contouring yet responsive mattress. The Saatva Classic comes in two heights and three firmness levels including Luxury Firm.

#3. Bear Elite Hybrid

Bear Elite hybrid mattress

Pros

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

Next up is Bear’s top-of-the-line mattress: the Bear Elite Hybrid.

It’s the best hybrid mattress for pressure relief that we recommend for sleepers with fibromyalgia. The Elite Hybrid is a frequent inclusion in our “best of” lists for pain relief because we’ve tried it and it just works.

It’s available in three firmness levels and it’s made with high-quality proprietary materials that not only aid in pressure relief, but also in cooling and muscle recovery.

Specs at a glance

Thickness levels 14 inches
Firmness levels Soft, Medium, Firm
Materials Phase change material, Celliant, copper-infused memory foam, high density support foam, pocketed coils

Bear Elite Hybrid performance

When it comes the Bear Hybrid’s firmness, we rated the Soft version a 4.5, the Medium a 6, and the Firm version a 7 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale.

We found the Medium version to be suitable for a wide range of individuals with fibromyalgia regardless of their sleeping position.

That said, you could choose the Soft version for additional cushioning and pressure relief, and the Firm version if you want a more supportive mattress for back and stomach sleepers.

The Elite Hybrid can hold up to 400 lbs. on each side so it can also accommodate heavyweight individuals.

In terms of pressure relief, we gave the Bear Elite Hybrid a 9.8.

We tried lying on the mattress in different sleeping positions and we felt exceptional pressure relief especially on our hips and shoulders.

Next, we gave the Bear Elite Hybrid a 9.6 for responsiveness.

The pocketed coils provided a good amount of bounce to make it easier for me to switch positions on the mattress.

As for cooling, the Bear Elite Hybrid got a 9.5 in our test.

We found the cooling properties in the mattress to be effective at drawing away body heat and keeping the surface cool. Some cooling materials in the Bear Elite Hybrid mattress are copper-infused memory foam and a cooling cover made with phase change material and Celliant fiber which converts body heat into energy.

Also known for aiding in muscle recovery, the Celliant fiber addition in the cover makes the mattress a great fit for athletes and active individuals.

In the motion isolation category, the Bear Elite Hybrid got a 9.4.

Mattresses with a coil support core are usually really bouncy, but the memory foam layers in the mattress deadens motion and keeps it from transferring to the other side of the bed.

Lastly, we gave the Bear Elite Hybrid a 9.2 for its edge support.

We found it to have strong edge support when compared to all-foam mattresses but it’s not the best for a hybrid mattress.

We gave the Bear Elite Hybrid an overall performance rating of 9.5 out of 10.

We go into more detail about this brand in our full Bear Elite Hybrid review.

Alternate pick: Bear Star Hybrid

Bear Star Hybrid

For those who prefer a less expensive option, consider the Bear Star Hybrid in addition to the Elite Hybrid.

The five-zoned support system and the usage of gel memory foam rather than copper-infused memory foam are the only real differences between its construction and that of the Elite Hybrid. Slightly smaller than the Elite Hybrid at 13 inches in height, it provides nearly equal support and pressure relief.

#4. Naturepedic EOS Classic

Naturepedic EOS Classic for people with fibromyalgia pain

Pros

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

Having trouble finding the best mattress firmness for your fibromyalgia?

We recommend the Naturepedic EOS Classic as it’s a fully customizable mattress that allows you to swap foam layers until you achieve your desired firmness.

For queen size and above, you get split firmness levels for both sides of the bed which it a great addition for couples with individual preferences.

Naturepedic EOS Classic performance

You can customize the firmness of the Naturepedic EOS Classic to make it as comfortable as possible to help alleviate your fibromyalgia and improve your sleep quality.

With multiple firmness options ranging from Plush all the way to Extra-Firm, this mattress is suitable for all body types regardless of your preferred sleeping position.

However, some side sleepers with fibromyalgia might prefer to customise it to get a softer mattress that to help relieve pressure on their shoulders and hips.

naturepedic eos classic layers

The Naturepedic EOS Classic got a 9.6 in our pressure relief test.

The Naturepedic EOS Classic mattress is made up of 100% organic latex which gives it a firmer and more buoyant feel. I felt a high level of support while laying on my back and I felt zero tension in my lumbar region.

We gave the Naturepedic EOS Classic a 9.5 for responsiveness.

Although it’s made with natural latex which is naturally sort of springy, I didn’t experience a high amount of bounce which is likely due to the thick quilting materials in the mattress cover.

In terms of cooling, we gave the Naturepedic EOS Classic a 9.5.

It’s great for hot sleepers like myself because the natural latex layer of the EOS Classic has pinholes for better and continuous airflow and the pocketed coils also help promote better ventilation all throughout the mattress.

The Naturepedic EOS Classic’s lowest score is an 9.7 in our motion isolation test.

The split firmness design of the bed made it almost impossible for motion to cross from one side to the other. That said, the bouncy coil system below still generated a tiny bit of motion transfer especially during bigger movements.

And as for edge support, we gave the Naturepedic EOS Classic an 8.7.

We felt considerable sinkage while sleeping on the edge of the mattress.

Overall, the Naturepedic EOS Classic garnered a performance rating of 9.4 out of 10.

It’s also made with organic materials and it has a medium-firm, responsive feel that’s suitable for all sleeper types including combination sleepers. Additionally, its supportive hybrid construction can also support fibromyalgia sufferers who weigh over 250 lbs.

#5. Nolah Evolution 15

Nolah Evolution 15 Hybrid Mattress

Pros

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

The Nolah Evolution 15 is the best mattress for heavyweight sleepers with fibromyalgia.

We really like this mattress because it’s one of the thickest beds on the market and its premium hybrid construction can support individuals who weigh up to 500 lbs of combined weight.

Available in three different firmness levels, the Nolah Evolution 15 is a mattress that we recommend for all sleeper types and those who suffer from body pain as well as back pain.

Nolah Evolution 15 performance

The Nolah Evolution 15 has three different firmness levels ranging from Plush (5) to Firm (8).

We recommend the Plush and Luxury Firm versions for those with fibromyalgia as these two provide the most pain relief from chronic pain.

The Firm version, on the other hand, is better for strict back and stomach sleepers who prefer a firmer mattress.

man sitting on the edge of Nolah evolution 15 mattress

We gave the Nolah Evolution 15 a 9.7 for pressure relief.

The proprietary foam layers provided good contouring and helped me maintain a neutral spinal alignment. This is a great mattress for side sleepers who need extra pressure relief on their main pressure points which, if you didn’t know, are their shoulders and hips.

In terms of responsiveness, we gave the Nolah Evolution 15 a 9.6.

We would’ve given it a higher score if not for the soft Euro topper that’s quilted to the cover. But all in all, the mattress has a more responsive foam feel which makes switching sleeping positions much easier.

As for cooling, the Nolah Evolution 15 mattress got a 9.3.

It has a breathable organic cotton cover that has a high thermal conductivity Euro topper sewn into it and it has open cell foam for added airflow.

In terms of motion isolation, we gave the Nolah Evolution 15 a 9.6.

Hybrid mattresses typically have moderate motion transfer since they contain spring coils but we felt little to none on this mattress which makes the Nolah Evolution 15 a good choice for those who share a bed.

Lastly, the Nolah Evolution 15 got a 9.2 in our edge support test.

Being a heavy-duty mattress, it comes as no surprise that the mattress has strong edge support.

Overall, the Nolah Evolution 15 got a performance rating of 9.5 out of 10.

We also have a full Nolah Evolution 15 mattress review with more details about the brand if it seems like something you’re interested in.

#6. The Winkbed

Winkbed mattress for stomach sleepers with fibromyalgia

Pros

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

We’re continuing our list with Winkbed’s flagship mattress – the Winkbed Original.

We like the Winkbed because it relieves not only back pain but also joint pain by providing body-hugging pressure relief.

It has multiple firmness versions that can accommodate all sleeper types and offer ample support for plus-size individuals.

The Winkbed performance

Our test results show that the Winkbed’s firmness levels range from Softer (4.5) to Firmer (7.5).

In addition, Winkbeds also offers a bonus option called Plus which is an extra-firm mattress (8) that’s ideal for heavyweight individuals.

We found the Luxury Firm version to be the most versatile in that it can fit most fibromyalgia sufferers regardless of body type and preferred sleep position. That said, you can choose the right mattress firmness for you among the 4 total Winkbed models.

man sitting on edge of winkbed mattress

In terms of pressure relief, we gave the Winkbed mattress a 9.8.

I experienced great pressure and pain relief from both the Softer and Luxury Firm models. Expect to get a conforming hug feeling that’s very common with memory foam mattresses.

The Winkbed mattress got a 9.7 in our responsiveness test.

The responsive pocketed coils made it easy for us to switch sleeping positions on the mattress which is great for fibromyalgia sufferers who have limited mobility.

As for cooling, we gave the Winkbed mattress a 9.1.

The mattress does have gel-infused memory foam for better temperature regulation and individually-encased coils for continuous airflow. We slept pretty much temperature-neutral when we tried the mattress out.

The Winkbed mattress got a 9.5 in our motion isolation test.

We noticed minimal cross-mattress motion transfer which is beneficial if your partner tosses and turns a lot in their sleep.

The Winkbed mattress gets a 9.7 in our edge support test.

We felt solid support near the edges and we’re happy to report that you can maximize the entire surface of the mattress.

The Winkbed got an overall performance rating of 9.6 out of 10.

We go into more detail about this score in our Winkbed mattress review.

#8. Sweet Night Prime

Sweet Night mattress

Pros

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

The Sweet Night Prime is a unique mattress in that it provides you with four different firmness levels in just one bed.

It’s a flippable memory foam mattress that’s budget-friendly and provides ample support and comfort for individuals with fibromyalgia.

In addition, the Sweet Night Prime also comes in two height options with the thinner model being slightly firmer and the thicker version being a bit softer and more pressure-relieving.

Sweet Night Prime performance

We’ve tested over a hundred beds so far and the Sweet Night Prime is the first one to feature 4 different firmness levels all within one mattress.

The top side is divided into Soft and Medium-Soft, and the bottom is Medium-Firm and Firm.

This mattress is suitable for most sleeper types with the exception of individuals over 300 lbs. If you’re a plus-size sleeper, you should consider heavy-duty mattresses made especially for heavier-set individuals that could provide you with the extra support that you would need.

We gave the Sweet Night Prime a 9.5 for pressure relief.

We did feel some good pressure relief while lying on the mattress but it’s not as good as thicker beds with more comfort layers. That said, we would recommend it for average weight fibromyalgia sufferers who are looking for a budget mattress.

In terms of responsiveness, we gave the Sweet Night a 9.3.

It did take me a little bit of effort to switch positions and move around the mattress.

As for cooling, we gave the Sweet Night Prime a 9 out of 10.

I didn’t experience any heat retention on the mattress and it showed good temperature regulation. I’d say it’s a good option for those who tend to sleep hot.

The Sweet Night Prime got a 9.5 in our motion isolation test.

We noticed some motion transfer from bigger movements like getting in and out of the bed. But smaller movements produced minimal to no motion transfer.

For our final test, we gave the Sweet Night Prime an 8.7 for edge support.

Unfortunately, this mattress has weak edge support and we would not recommend sleeping near the edge of the bed.

The Sweet Night Prime got an overall performance rating of 9.2 out of 10.

You can get more info about this brand in our full review of the Sweet Night Prime.

It’s also a flippable bed but it has 3 firmness zones instead of the Prime’s 4. It’s pretty much made with the same good-quality materials but it’s cheaper than the Prime by a few hundred bucks making it even more affordable. The Sweet Night Dreamy mattress is suitable for all sleeper types and it also provides body pain relief for fibromyalgia sufferers.

#9. Emma Hybrid Comfort

Emma Hybrid Comfort cheap mattress for fibromyalgia

Pros

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

We like the Emma Hybrid Comfort because it’s one of the only budget hybrid mattresses that offer zoned support for back pain relief.

It’s made with contouring proprietary foams and pocketed coils that provide comfort as well as durable support.

Medium-firm in feel, the Emma Hybrid Comfort works for all body types and sleeping positions.

Emma Hybrid Comfort performance

The Emma Hybrid Comfort’s firmness sits at the industry standard 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. It’s around a medium-firm feel and it’s the Goldilocks of firmness levels because it’s neither too soft or too firm.

That being said, we don’t think this mattress is supportive enough for heavyweight stomach sleepers. If you belong in that category, you should opt for a firmer model that prevents your hips from dipping into the mattress and taking your spine out of alignment.

We gave the Emma Hybrid Comfort a 9.6 for pressure relief.

It did really well in our test since its memory foam layers gently cradled my joints and alleviated tension from my body. The zoned support system also provided extra lumbar support and softer cushioning around my shoulder.

As for responsiveness, we gave the Emma Hybrid Comfort a 9.7.

It was really easy to switch positions and move around on this mattress. We highly recommend it for combination sleepers and people with low mobility.

In terms of cooling, we gave the Emma Hybrid Comfort a 9.

Although it did keep us temperature-neutral, it doesn’t really have active cooling properties. Nonetheless, you’ll still get a bit of airflow from the open cell foam layer in the mattress.

In the area of motion isolation, we gave the Emma Hybrid Comfort a 9.1.

Since it contains coils, you will feel some (but not a lot) cross-mattress movement on this mattress (we go into more detail about this issue in our Emma Hybrid Comfort full review).

For our edge support test we gave the Emma Hybrid Comfort an 8.8

This was surprising for me since it’s a hybrid mattress that has a responsive coil system. I felt the foams compress quite a bit while I was sleeping the edge of the bed.

Overall, the Emma Hybrid Comfort got a performance rating of 9.2 out of 10.

#10. Latex for Less Hybrid Latex Mattress

Latex for Less Hybrid natural latex fibroymalgia mattress

Pros

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

Last but not least is another organic bed (but cheaper than most this time) – the Latex for Less Hybrid Latex Mattress.

We like it because it’s an eco-friendly mattress that provides a comfortable and supportive sleep surface that aids in fibromyalgia relief.

It’s made with 100% natural latex and it contains a pocketed coil system that offers extra support. The mattress also comes in two firmness levels which makes the Latex for Less Hybrid mattress an excellent option for most individuals with different sleeping position preferences.

Latex for Less Hybrid Latex Mattress performance

We rated the Latex for Less Hybrid Latex mattress’ firmness a 5 on the Medium and a 7.5 on the Firm version.

We found that the Medium model is better at relieving body pain while the Firm version provides additional bounce and support. This mattress can hold up to 400 lbs. of combined weight so it’s a good option for plus-size back sleepers

Our team gave the Latex for Less Hybrid Latex mattress a 9.6 for pressure relief.

The Medium version in particular gave me a lot of contouring which helped relieve pressure points across my body. Whereas the Firm version excelled in promoting a neutral and healthy spinal alignment.

We rate the Latex for Less Hybrid Latex mattress a 9.6 for responsiveness.

The inherently buoyant nature of organic latex gives it a quick response rate which made it easier for me to switch between different sleeping positions.

In terms of cooling, we gave the Latex for Less Hybrid a 9.3.

Natural latex has a perforated structure which allows airflow to help you sleep cooler throughout the night.

As for motion isolation, we gave the Latex for Less Hybrid a 9.2.

We were pleasantly surprised to see a very minimal amount of motion transfer on a latex mattress like this one. If you share a bed, you definitely won’t be disturbed by your partner’s movements at night.

And finally, we gave the Latex for Less Hybrid a 9.3 for edge support.

I felt well-supported while lying close to the edge of the bed but I did start to sink when I switched to sitting. It’s best to keep this in mind.

The Latex for Less Hybrid Latex Mattress garnered an overall performance rating of 9.4 out of 10.

Why we chose these mattresses

While we were searching for the best mattresses for fibromyalgia, we focused on mattresses that provide maximum body-contouring and pressure relief. One major issue of having fibromyalgia is finding it difficult to get comfortable enough to sleep so we wanted to make sure that each mattress on the list would help you sleep comfortably and would help reduce body pain.

These are the major factors that we considered before choosing the mattresses:

  • Durability  We looked for mattresses that are resistant to premature mattress sagging. To determine this, we tested them to make sure they could support a minimum load of 600 lbs. without compromising the structural integrity of the mattress. So far, we’ve found that organic latex hybrid mattresses last the longest followed by memory foam beds and lastly, classic innerspring beds.
  • Pressure relief  We specifically looked for mattresses that contour to a sleeper’s body and distribute body weight evenly. We tested the ability of each mattress to conform to our bodies and relieve pressure points. Based on our experience, memory foam offers the best body-contouring and pressure relief so most of the models on our list contain memory foam layers.
  • Zoned support  We looked for mattresses that provide zoned support to help alleviate tension and pain in your lower back. A mattress has zoned support when it’s firmer on the middle part where your lower back rests and softer around the shoulders and legs. A mattress with zoned support also offers extra support for your lumbar region and keeps your spine in a neutral alignment.
  • Certifications  We looked for mattresses that are backed by environmental certifications. Some of the certifications that we look out for are CertiPUR-US and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 for foam beds, and GOTS and GOLS for organic mattresses.

We also included mattresses that have adjustable or multiple firmness levels to help fibromyalgia sufferers get the right mattress regardless of their body type and sleeping style.

FAQs

What mattress firmness level should I choose for fibromyalgia?

We recommend that fibromyalgia sufferers choose a medium-firm mattress because it provides both relaxing pressure relief and a good amount of spinal support.

What mattress material should people with fibromyalgia choose?

In general, we suggest that individuals with fibromyalgia get a memory foam mattress that can cradle their body and alleviate any tension from their joints. However, firmer mattresses such as innerspring and latex models can also work if you prefer something that helps keep your spine and hips aligned when back or stomach sleeping.
