Our experience with the Helix Plus Luxe Mattress
The Helix Plus Luxe lived up to our expectations… for the most part.
Let me start off with what I didn’t like: the edge support.
I’m not saying that it’s bad, not by any means. But for a mattress that’s geared towards heavier-set people, the edge support on the Helix Plus Luxe lacks that extra oomph.

Now onto the parts that I did like.
For a hybrid mattress, the Helix Plus Luxe absorbs motion just as well as an all-foam mattress, making it an excellent choice for those who share the bed with a partner.
Another thing I like about the Helix Plus Luxe is that it provides pressure relief and compression without giving you that stuck in the mud feel that’s usually associated with memory foam.
This is crucial, especially if you weigh over 200 lbs.
Firmness

The Helix Plus Luxe sits on a 7 on the mattress firmness scale giving it a medium-to-firm feel.
This firmness level is best for strict back and stomach sleepers since it helps you achieve proper spinal alignment.

Strict side sleepers, especially if you weigh less than average, will find it to be a little too firm, which can cause pressure point issues – if you are a side sleeper, I suggest choosing a softer mattress instead.
Cooling Test
We rate the Helix Plus Luxe a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to temperature regulation.

The mattress comes with a Tencel cover that’s both breathable and moisture-wicking. Although it does a good job at keeping heat at bay, it may not be enough if you tend to sleep extremely hot.
Helix does offer their proprietary GlacioTex cooling cover as an upgrade but it raises the price considerably.
Motion Transfer Test
We rate the Helix Plus Luxe a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

As I’ve mentioned earlier, the mattress performs much like an all-foam mattress when it comes to motion isolation,.
I barely felt any motion transfer when I tried the mattress out with a partner. In my opinion, this is a great mattress for couples.
Edge Support Test
We rate the Helix Plus Luxe a 6.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
This is where I’m a bit disappointed.

For a mattress that’s made specifically for plus-sized sleeper that also features reinforced edge coils, it’s severely lacking in the edge support department – so much so that you may find yourself actually rolling off the edge of the bed.
Pressure Relief Test
We rate the Helix Plus Luxe an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
Aside from the four foam layers that make up the top half, it also features a premium quilted pillow top that adds a welcome plushness to the firm feel of the bed.

This helps provide pressure relief.
The mattress also contains a layer of gel memory foam that I found made the mattress feel very comfortable and supportive.
Construction
There are seven layers to the Helix Plus Luxe mattress.
These layers come encased in either a breathable Tencel cover or a GlacioTex cooling cover (as an optional paid upgrade).
The mattress also features a plush pillow top.

The first comfort layer is made up of gel memory foam that helps provide compression and pressure relief.
Next comes a proprietary tech that Helix calls their CoolForce layer that’s made up of graphite ribbons that helps with heat retention.
A layer of Helix Dynamic foam makes up another comfort layer that’s designed to cradle and contour the entire body for even more pressure relief.
Another layer of higher density Helix Dynamic foam lies underneath. This layer helps provide support and helps with any sinkage.
An ErgoAlign foam layer comes next. This layer helps provide zoned, responsive support.
The coil unit of the Helix Plus Luxe is made up of TitanCore durable steel coils that come individually-wrapped. These coils are designed specifically for higher body weights and offer sturdy support.
The base layer is made up of DuraDense foam, a high density foam that helps hold all the top layers together while also providing more support.
Durability
We have yet to come across a Helix mattress (and believe me, we’ve tried many) that does not perform well when it comes to durability and longevity.
The Helix Plus Luxe is no different.
Just like all other Helix mattresses, the Helix Plus Luxe is made from premium, high quality materials that feel like they will last over the long haul.
Sizes

The Helix Plus Luxe comes in six standard mattress sizes and measures 13.5 inches in thickness.
It is compatible with most bed frames, foundations and bases including an adjustable base.

Where to buy the Helix Plus Luxe mattress
The best place to buy the Helix Plus Luxe is from Helix Sleep’s official website.
I always recommend buying mattresses directly from the manufacturer, because it ensures that you get full warranty protection and that customer service will actually help you out if you have a problem with it.
Buying from secondary retailers is always a crap shoot at best.
But if you really want to, you can also buy the Helix Plus Luxe on Amazon.
Conclusion
If you’re a heavier-set sleeper and you’re looking for a mattress that’s designed specifically for your body type then you can’t go wrong with the Helix Plus Luxe mattress…
Unless you also need something with outstanding edge support.
If edge support isn’t a deal breaker for you then this mattress will provide with not only extra support but more than enough pressure relief thanks to its multiple proprietary foam layers and robust coil unit.
All in all it’s a solid mattress that you won’t regret purchasing.
