These days, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a memory foam hybrid mattress that’s under $1000 (although not impossible). The company claims the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex will provide you with low-priced luxury and high-quality sleep. But does it really? I decided to take it for a test drive to find out.

Cons

  • Not suitable for heavyweight stomach sleepers and lightweight side sleepers
  • Sleeps hot
  • Features are not particularly outstanding

Our experience with the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Hybrid Mattress

For a mattress in its price point, the CopperFlex performs well across the board – it’s not particularly exceptional but it is acceptable.

In short, don’t expect to be ‘wowed’ but do expect that you’ll get what you pay for.

The CopperFlex isn’t a luxury mattress…but it’s not trying to be one

Featuring layers of copper-infused foam as well as a patented transition foam and a robust coil unit, the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex offers enough pressure relief and support for most sleeper types.

The only thing that it falls short on, surprisingly, is its cooling capabilities – it sleeps pretty hot for a mattress that has copper-infused foam as well as a so-called ‘cooling cover’.

Firmness

Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Hybrid firmness guide

The Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Hybrid sits on a 7 on the mattress firmness scale giving it a true medium-firm feel.

Although medium-firm mattresses are usually good for all sleeper types including back sleepers and combination sleepers, lightweight side sleepers may find the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Hybrid to be a bit too firm.

Cooling Test

We rate the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex mattress a 6 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

True; it contains copper-infused foam, a coil unit, and a cooling cover which all supposedly help keep heat retention at bay; but the multiple comfort foam layers of the mattress retain quite a good amount of heat.

Definitely not a mattress I recommend for those who tend to sleep hot.

Motion Transfer Test

We rate the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex mattress an 8 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

The mattress has great motion isolation

In terms of motion isolation, the mattress’ foam layers work well in its favor – I barely felt any cross mattress movement when I tried the mattress out with a partner.

Edge Support Test

We rate the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex mattress an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

Edge support is also fantastic

The Ascension coil unit features reinforced edge coils that are thicker than the ones in the center.

This gives the mattress better and sturdier edge support which in turn, allows you to sleep on more of the mattress surface.

Pressure Relief Test

We rate the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex mattress an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

I think this is where the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Hybrid mattress really shines especially for its price point.

Pressure relief is the standout feature of the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex

Once again the multiple layers of foam come together to provide a mattress that gives you the same pressure relief and compression as an all-foam mattress but the responsive support of a hybrid – basically the best of both worlds.

Win win.

Construction

The Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Hybrid features six layers.

These layers come encased in Brooklyn Bedding’s signature GlacioTex cooling cover.

The CopperFlex is constructed with six (6!) layers

The first layer of the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Hybrid is made up of quilted comfort foam that basically acts as a plush pillow top.

The second layer is made up of copper-infused memory foam for pressure relief. It’s also cooling and antimicrobial thanks to its copper particles.

The third layer is made up of Brooklyn Bedding’s own ‘supreme response foam’ that acts as a transition layer between its comfort layers and coil unit.

Below that lies another layer of transition foam that helps provide zoned support for all the main areas of the body.

The coil unit of the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Hybrid is made up of 8-inch steel coils that come individually-wrapped, helping with both motion isolation and airflow.

The base layer of the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Hybrid is made up of high density foam that holds all the top layers together while also providing stability.

Durability

We have tried more than a few Brooklyn Bedding mattresses by now and I can definitely attest that the quality and materials in the CopperFlex more than live up to the standard set by their other mattresses (e.g. the Signature Hybrid).

Well-made mattresses can last you a very long time especially with proper mattress care and maintenance.

Conclusion

Memory foam hybrid mattresses come at a high price point nowadays but once in a while, brands like Brooklyn Bedding come out with something that’s both cheap and high-quality.

I liked that the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex mattress offers more than enough pressure relief for most sleeper types including heavier-set back sleepers. I also liked the fact that even though it’s a hybrid mattress – which usually tends to be pretty springy – it absorbs a good amount of motion transfer making it a great choice for couples.

However, for those that tend to sleep hot, I would steer clear of the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex as it retains a good amount of heat.
