  • Suitable for all sleeper types
  • Suitable for heavier-set individuals

Cons

  • Slight off-gassing
  • Edge support could be better

Our experience with the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite Mattress

The newest mattress offering amongst Emma’s mattress line, the Emma Hybrid Cooling Comfort mattress features a blend of different proprietary foams (which includes graphite-infused memory foam and polyurethane foam) and individually pocketed coils provide both the contouring pressure relief of true memory foam and the responsive support of innerspring coils.

Being a hybrid mattress, the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite can accommodate heavier-set sleepers as the combination of foam and coils can provide them with extra support.

Testing out the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite for side sleepers

All that said though, we found that the edge support of the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite to be slightly lacking, but other than that we can safely say that we are pretty happy with the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress’ overall performance.

Firmness

emma hybrid cooling elite mattress firmness

Upon first glance, you’d think that the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress’ firmness level is around a medium-soft but when you lay on it, you actually find that it’s more of a true medium which is around a 5 to 5.5 on the mattress firmness scale.

Mattresses that have a true medium feel are suitable for all sleeper types including strict back and stomach sleepers as well as side sleepers and combination sleepers.

Not too firm and not too soft, the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress feels just right.

Cooling Test

We rate the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress a 9 out of 10 when it comes to temperature regulation.

Sure, mattress brands have a tendency to use marketing jargon to drum up sales but every once in a while they really do mean what they say.

Emma has hit it out of the park with the Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress (and not to mention, it really does live up to its name).

And why wouldn’t it? With a Thermosync graphite-infused top foam layer, an open-celled Airgocell foam layer and Aeroflex pocketed coils, the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite draws heat away from the body and the mattress allowing you to sleep cool all throughout the night.

Motion Transfer Test

We rate the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

For a hybrid mattress that’s pretty responsive, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress absorbed a lot of cross mattress movement when we tested it out using our famous water glass test making it an excellent choice for those who share a bed with a partner or a very large pet.

Edge Support Test

We rate the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress a 7 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

As we always say, there really isn’t a perfect mattress and this is where the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite disappoints us a bit.

Testing the Hybrid Cooling Elite's edge support

If you’re of average weight and above and you’re sitting on the edge of the bed, you are undoubtedly going to roll off the bed.

Laying on or close to the edge of the bed though, you get a bit more support since your body weight is partially distributed across one side of the mattress.

Those who really like sleeping close to the edge of the bed should look for other options lest you find yourself waking up (painfully) on the floor every morning.

Pressure Relief/Comfort Test

We rate the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to pressure relief/comfort.

Yes, a 9.5.

I can only count on the fingers of one hand how many hybrid mattresses we’ve rated above a 9 which makes the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress pretty special indeed.

Layers of Emma’s very own memory foam alternative make up most of the comfort layers of the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite offering exceptional pressure relief without that stuck in the mud feel that’s usually associated with true memory foam.

The Aeroflex coil unit of the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress also offers zoned, responsive support and is dynamic in a way that it moves with your body, giving you support and comfort all over.

Construction

There are 5 layers to the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress.

All of these layers come encased in a polyester and elastane blend mattress cover that’s not removable and non-washable so be sure to use a mattress protector.

The first comfort layer is made up of Thermosync foam that’s infused with graphite which is scientifically proven to be an excellent heat conductor. When used in mattresses, it helps draw heat away from the mattress and away from the sleeper.

The second layer is made from Point-elastic Airgocell foam, another one of Emma’s proprietary foams. A memory foam alternative, Airgocell foam is an open-celled foam that allows more airflow, which does away with heat retention.

The third foam layer is made up of adaptive visco-elastic foam that offers responsive comfort akin to a latex foam mattress.

Right beneath that lies a layer of HRX comfort foam that also acts as a transition layer between all the foam layers up top and the coil unit below.

The Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress coil unit is made up of Aeroflex pocket springs that are individually wrapped. Emma’s Aeroflex pocket springs move with your movements, offering constant support no matter your sleeping position.

We did experience a tiny amount of off-gassing when we first unboxed the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress but this dissipated within 24 hours.

Durability

Emma mattresses did not just rise to popularity because they use quality materials and affordability as well as a good online presence – they are also very durable and are built to last a long time.

Bear in mind though that every mattress, no matter the brand, will show normal wear and tear throughout years of constant usage. Of course, you can prolong this or any mattress’ lifespan with proper care and maintenance.
