The Helix Dusk Luxe is one of very few hybrid mattresses that we’ve tried that actually feels like a latex mattress – the same bouncy, responsive feel and the same supportive yet pressure relieving comfort without any of the sinkage that’s usually associated with memory foam mattresses.
Mattresses like the Helix Dusk Luxe are perfect for those who suffer from back pain – whether chronic or acute – because it helps provide proper spinal alignment which is exactly what back pain sufferers need.
Since it’s a hybrid mattress, the Helix Dusk Luxe is also perfect for those that weigh over 250 lbs thanks to its combination of foams and durable steel coils.
Here’s the thing though, since it’s a firmer type of mattress (which is awesome for back and stomach sleepers) it might be a little too firm for side sleepers who are more on the petite side.
Firmness
The Helix website says that the Helix Dusk Luxe mattress has a medium feel but we think it’s more of a medium-firm feel when we tried it out.
As we’ve mentioned, back and stomach sleepers will benefit the most from firmer mattresses no matter their size but strict side sleepers who are on the petite side may find firmer mattresses to be tough on their pressure points.
Cooling Test
We rate the Helix Dusk Luxe an 8 out 10 when it comes to cooling and temperature regulation.
Helix uses proprietary foams that feature active cooling materials in the Helix Dusk mattress. You also get to choose between two different cooling covers although we have to say, the default mattress cover that the Helix Dusk Luxe comes with which is made of Tencel is already pretty cooling and breathable.
Aside from the cooling proprietary foam layers, the Helix Dusk Luxe mattress’ coil unit does a very good job of letting air flow continuously throughout the entire mattress.
Motion Transfer Test
We rate the Helix Dusk Luxe mattress a 7 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
We experienced a small amount of motion transfer when we tried the mattress out with a partner, mostly because of the combination of latex-like foam and spring coils. Nothing too crazy though but if you share a bed with a partner who’s slightly heavier than you are, you may feel some motion transfer.
Edge Support Test
We rate the Helix Dusk mattress a 7 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
Here’s where the Helix Dusk mattress disappoints us a little. For a mattress that features durable steel coils, you’d think they’d include reinforced edge coils but nope – the edge support on the Helix Dusk mattress is pretty much subpar.
Pressure Relief/Comfort Test
We rate the Helix Dusk Luxe a 9 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
The Helix Dusk Luxe mattress features a pillow top layer as well as 4 foam comfort layers that provide exceptional pressure relief and comfort.
The latex and memory foam hybrid foam combo offers a responsive type of comfort that’s contouring enough without letting you feel as though you are sinking into the bed which is exactly what strict back and stomach sleepers need.
Construction
The Helix Dusk Luxe mattress contains 6 different layers including an optional upgrade of an ErgoAlign comfort layer.
The topmost layer is made up of a cooling pillow top that provides extra contouring and compression for better pressure relief.
Beneath that comes the optional ErgoAlign comfort layer that helps provide extra compression on areas where you need it the most.
Even without the ErgoAlign layer, you already get a comfort layer that’s made up of Helix’s responsive foam that also provides contouring and pressure relief.
Right underneath that lies Helix’s Dynamic foam, a latex and memory foam blend that offers responsive support.
The transition layer is made up of Helix’s Responsive foam that is slightly firmer and being a transition foam, helps ease your body into the mattress’ coil unit feel.
The coil unit in the Helix Dusk Luxe mattress is made up of up to a thousand of durable steel coils that are individually wrapped for better motion absorption. The coil unit also offers zoned support that offers support in areas where you’d need it the most such as the back, legs and shoulders.
The base layer is made up of high density foam that offers even more support and helps hold all the upper layers together.
The mattress cover of the Helix Dusk Luxe is made up of Tencel, which is soft and breathable. You also have the option to upgrade to an active cooling cover which is Helix’s own GlacioTex cover which is cool to the touch.
Durability
Helix mattresses in general are pretty durable when it comes to longevity and the Helix Dusk Luxe is no different.
Made from premium quality materials, the Helix Dusk Luxe mattress falls under Helix’s Luxe line of mattresses which are known for their quality and durability.
