Why it’s the best
Made from a combination copper-infused memory foam, a plush Euro pillow top and thick pocketed coils with no latex whatsoever, the Bear Elite Hybrid delivers all across the board in terms of support and comfort.
Another thing I liked about the Bear Elite Hybrid is that it comes in different firmness options, ensuring that there is something for everyone no matter your preferred sleeping position.
But the best thing about the Bear Elite Hybrid is that it offers maximum pressure relief as well as extra support – even for those who are heavier-set thanks to the combo of copper-infused memory foam and pocketed coils.

Bear Elite Hybrid Performance
You get three different firmness options to choose from with the Bear Elite Hybrid mattress – soft, medium and firm.
The soft version is best for strict side sleepers as it gives you the most compression and pressure relief while the medium version can accommodate most other sleeper types including combination sleepers. The firm version is best for those who sleep strictly on their backs or stomachs.
Being a hybrid mattress, the Bear Elite Hybrid can accommodate heavier-set people because it’s able to provide you with the extra support you need.
We rate the Bear Elite Hybrid a 9.8 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
There’s no denying that memory foam is compressing and contouring, but the copper-infused foam in this mattress hugs and cradles just the right places without compromising either your spinal alignment or areas where you need more support.
We rate the Bear Elite Hybrid an 8.5 when it comes to cooling.
Traditional memory foam is notorious for trapping heat. That’s why mattress brands of today have begun developing their very own propietary memory foam blends instead of using straight-up memory foam. The Bear Elite Hybrid contains copper-infused foam which helps wick heat away from the mattress. This in turn helps you sleep cool throughout the night.
We rate the Bear Elite Hybrid a 9.5 when it comes to motion isolation.
Hybrid mattresses are usually not the best when it comes to motion isolation (because of the coils) but I was pleasantly surprised to find that this mattress – despite its substantial coil unit – did an amazing job at deadening any cross mattress movement when I tried it out with a partner.
We rate the Bear Elite Hybrid a 9 when it comes to edge support.
Edge-to-edge coils surround the perimeter of the mattress giving it extra edge support. You won’t be in any danger of rolling off the bed even if you’re the type of sleeper who likes to sleep close to the edge.

If you prefer something a bit more budget-friendly, check out the Bear Original mattress.
Just like the Elite Hybrid, the Original does not contain any latex but instead features cooling gel-infused foam as well as Bear’s very own dynamic transition foam which helps provide pressure relief while also helping you achieve proper spinal alignment while you sleep.

#2. Helix Midnight Luxe

Pros
- Plush and pressure-relieving
- Good for those who suffer from chronic pain
- Best for side sleepers and combination sleepers
- Fiberglass-free
Cons
- Might be too soft for strict back and stomach sleepers
- Not suitable for hot sleepers

Why it’s one of the best
Chronic pain – who is she?
Seriously though, if you suffer from chronic pain such as fibromyalgia, the Helix Midnight Luxe is going to be your best friend.
Featuring two different types of proprietary memory foam (copper-infused and Memory Plus), the Helix Midnight Luxe offers deep compression which helps take any pressure off the main pressure points.
Another thing I liked about this mattress is its motion isolating properties and edge support. This makes it an excellent choice for those who share a bed with a partner.
One thing though – if you tend to sleep hot, you might find that the Midnight Luxe sleeps a little warm even though it contains copper-infused foam.
You’ll need to spring a little bit extra to add a Tencel or GlacioTex cooling cover to help with heat retention (you can do this at checkout).

Helix Midnight Luxe Performance
The Helix Midnight Luxe mattress sits on a six on the mattress firmness scale giving it a medium-firm feel.
A medium-firm mattress can accommodate most sleeper types including back and stomach sleepers, but lightweight side sleepers might find it to be a tad too firm.
Since it’s a hybrid mattress, the Helix Midnight Luxe can accommodate heavier-set sleepers and provides them with the extra support they need.
We rate the Helix Midnight Luxe a 9.7 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
Like I said, it’s really hard to find fault with this mattress when it comes to pressure relief. The double whammy of two different memory foam types provide more than enough contouring and compression for all sleeper types, especially those who suffer from chronic pain.
We rate the Helix Midnight Luxe a 9.4 when it comes to cooling.
Don’t get me wrong, the copper-infused foam in the mattress is doing all the heavy lifting here but it somehow falls short because of the extra memory foam plus layer that still retains a bit of heat. Be forewarned if you tend to sleep extremely hot.
We rate the Helix Midnight Luxe a 9.4 when it comes to motion isolation.
Even though this is a hybrid mattress, I barely felt any motion transfer when I tried it out with a partner, making it a great choice for couples.
We rate the Helix Midnight Luxe a 9.5 when it comes to edge support.
The mattress features reinforced edge coils giving it really sturdy edge support. If you’re a weirdo like me who likes to sleep basically on the edge of the bed, this mattress is your best bet.

If you are looking to splurge a little bit, check out the Helix Midnight Elite.

#3. Plank Firm

Pros
- Helps with proper spinal alignment
- Flippable – has two different firmness options in one mattress
- Good for back pain
- Great motion isolation
Cons
- Not suitable for heavier-set individuals
- Average edge support

Why it’s one of the best
Inspired by the age-old Japanese tradition of tatami mats, the Plank Firm is an all-foam brand that features two different firmness levels within the same mattress – all you need to do is to flip it.
Bear in mind though, as its name suggests, the firmness levels are firm and extra-firm, which means it’s really only good for strict back and stomach sleepers – side sleepers are not going to get the pressure relief they need.
It’s no secret that all-foam mattresses perform brilliantly when it comes to motion isolation and the Plank Firm is no exception. It’s a great brand to choose if you share the bed with a partner.
The Plank Firm does not contain any latex foam. It’s made out of a mix of high density foam and a proprietary comfort foam that contributes to its extreme level of firmness.

Plank Firm Performance
As I’ve mentioned, the Plank Firm mattress has two different firmness levels within one mattress – a firm and an extra-firm. Firmer mattresses are only suitable for strict back and stomach sleepers as they not only offer these sleeper types the pressure relief that they need but also help with proper spinal alignment.
We rate the Plank Firm mattress a 7 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
Had the mattress been a bit softer, this rating would have been a little higher. As it stands right now, it’s just too firm for side sleepers. There’s no question though when I say that the Plank Firm offers stomach sleepers and back sleepers enough pressure point relief in their main pressure point areas.
We rate the Plank Firm mattress an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
For an all-foam mattress – and one without any actively cooling materials at that – this mattress did a pretty good job at keeping heat retention at bay, making it a good choice for those who sleep hot and still prefer a mattress without springs.
We rate the Plank Firm mattress a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
As a general rule, all-foam beds absorb movement better than mattresses with springs. I barely felt any motion transfer when I tried the mattress out with a partner.
We rate the Plank Firm mattress a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
The firmer surface helps keep the edges of the mattress well-supported. Although not the best, the edge support is still enough not to have you rolling off the bed.

Alternate pick: Plank Firm Luxe

If you prefer a firmer mattress (and one that contains springs), check out the Plank Firm Luxe.
Also flippable just like the base model Firm, the Firm Luxe features a coil unit in addition to proprietary foam layers. This helps give heavier-set sleepers the extra support they need.

#4. Glacier Original Hybrid

Pros
- Offers responsive support
- Great for back and stomach sleepers
- Cooling
- Helps with proper spinal alignment
Cons
- Not suitable for strict side sleepers
- Slight motion transfer
Why it’s one of the best
So you’re a hot sleeper and you sleep only on your back or stomach – not a very good combo BUT there is a latex-free mattress for you: the Glacier Original Hybrid.
Made up of a blend of four different types of proprietary foam as well as a pocketed coil unit, the Glacier Original Hybrid not only provides comfort and support but is also pretty cool (literally) to sleep on (the Glacier moniker is living up to the hype).
Another thing that’s great about the medium firmness level on this mattress is that it’s perfect for back and stomach sleepers who normally need a little extra help when it comes to spinal alignment.
Specs at a glance
Thickness levels | 12 inches |
Firmness levels | Medium Firm |
Materials | GlacierTECH cooling cotton cover, graphite-infused memory foam, gel-infused memory foam, ARCFlow ventilated gel foam, pocketed steel coils, high density base foam |

Glacier Original Hybrid Performance
The Glacier Original Hybrid sits on a 7.5 on the mattress firmness scale, giving it a medium-firm feel that skews more towards firm.
This firmness level is best for those who sleep strictly on their backs or stomachs but isn’t great for strict side sleepers – a firm mattress surface will only cause pressure relief issues for those who sleep mostly on their sides.
Being a hybrid mattress, the Glacier Original Hybrid can accommodate those who weigh over 230 lbs. and is able to give them the extra support they need.
We rate the Glacier Original Hybrid a 7.6 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
This just gets a bit of a low rating because it won’t give strict side sleepers any pressure relief whatsoever. But if you’re a back or stomach sleeper then you’re golden. The multiple memory foam layers of the Glacier Original Hybrid provide more than enough pressure relief for those who sleep predominantly on their backs or stomachs.
We rate the Glacier Original Hybrid an 8 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
This mattress is chock-full of actively cooling materials; from their GlacioTECH cooling cover to their graphite and cooling gel-infused foam layers that help do away with heat retention. It’s a solid choice if you sleep hot.
We rate the Glacier Original Hybrid a 6 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
This is where the mattress disappoints me a little bit – for all its memory foam layers that supposedly help absorb motion transfer better, I still experienced quite a good amount of cross mattress movement when I tried the mattress out with a partner. I’d only recommend this mattress if you’re a single sleeper.
We rate the Glacier Original Hybrid a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
Definitely not the best I’ve tried but not the worst either – I’d say the edge support is pretty…. mid. You might find yourself rolling off the edge if you weigh a little heavier than average.
Alternate pick: Glacier Apex Hybrid

If you need a latex-free Glacier mattress that’s a little softer, check out the Apex Hybrid.
Built similarly to the Original Hybrid with its multiple proprietary memory foam layers, the Apex Hybrid features a medium-soft firmness which is excellent for side sleepers.
#5. Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe

Pros

- Very cooling
- Features a soft, plush pillow top
- Suitable for all sleeper types
Cons
- Motion isolation could be better
- Poor edge support

Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Performance
You get to choose between three different firmness options with the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe – soft, medium and firm.
The soft version is best for strict side sleepers while the medium version can accommodate most sleeper types including combination sleepers. The firm version is best for those who sleep only on their backs or stomachs.
Being a hybrid mattress, the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe can accommodate heavier-set sleepers and provide them with the added support they need.
We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe a 10 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
That’s right, a 10. Remember what I told you about the softest, fluffiest teddy bear? I wasn’t kidding. If you want a 5-star hotel bed experience when it comes to comfort, this mattress has it in spades.
We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
The two main actively-cooling materials in the mattress are 1) its GlacioTex cooling cover and 2) its copper-infused foam. While two may not sound like a lot, it’s more than enough to keep heat retention at bay.
We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe a 6.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
This is where the mattress’ plushness works against it (yes, even in the firmer versions) – I unfortunately did experience a good amount of motion transfer when I tried the mattress out with a partner.
We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe a 6 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
Once again the plushness is the culprit: although the mattress does contain reinforced edges, it didn’t provide the right amount of edge support.

#6. The WinkBed

Pros
- Suitable for all sleeper types
- Hotel quality comfort
- Comes in four different firmness levels
- Pressure relieving
Cons
- Slight off-gassing
- Can be too pricey for some
Why it’s one of the best
Here’s one for the heavier-set side sleepers: the WinkBed mattress offers hotel quality comfort in a firmness level that’s made specifically for those who weigh well over 230 lbs.
The WinkBed contains different types of proprietary foam, including a gel-infused memory foam and a stabilizing support foam that helps prevent the “stuck in the mud” feel that’s associated with classic memory foam.
Specs at a glance
Thickness levels | 13.5 inches |
Firmness levels | Soft, Luxury Firm, Firm, Plus |

The WinkBed Performance
There are four different firmness options to choose from with the WinkBed mattress: soft, luxury firm, firm and plus.
The soft version is best for strict side sleepers while the luxury firm has a true medium feel that can accommodate most sleeper types. The firm version is best for strict stomach and back sleepers while the plus version is made specifically for heavier-set sleepers.
We rate the WinkBed an 8 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
The combination of the plush Euro top and the memory foam comfort layer offers ample compression and contouring. The support foam and coil unit of the mattress makes you feel like you’re sleeping “on” the mattress rather than “in” it (almost like you’re floating on top).
We rate the WinkBed a 7 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
The mattress doesn’t really contain any fancy cooling tech or actively cooling materials – save for its Eucalyptus-derived Tencel cover – but that’s more than enough to keep air circulating throughout the mattress, especially since it includes a substantial coil system.
We rate the WinkBed a 7 when it comes to motion isolation.
Although I did feel a very small amount of motion transfer when I tried the mattress out with a partner, it wasn’t too uncomfortable… unless you happen to be a very light sleeper and share a bed with a partner who’s significantly heavier than you are. In that case I would look elsewhere.
We rate the WinkBed an 8 when it comes to edge support.
The mattress features a unique Edge-to-Edge coil system that contains firmer coils around the perimeter, contributing to its extra edge support.
Alternate pick: WinkBeds GravityLux

If you prefer something that’s all-foam, check out the WinkBeds GravityLux mattress.
Featuring four different types of proprietary memory foam including a cooling gel-infused foam, the WinkBeds GravityLux offers a deep contouring and compression.
This really is a comfortable mattress.
#7. Novilla Bliss

Pros
- Affordable
- Good motion isolation
- Good for those who suffer from body pain
- Soft and cushioning
Cons
- Heat retentive
- Not suitable for strict back and stomach sleepers
6% off coupon code: Sleepline6
Why it’s one of the best
Did you also know that latex can be very expensive? Thank goodness then that the Novilla Bliss does not contain any and not only that – it’s one of the most affordable latex-free options on our list.
Made up of proprietary foam layers including one that features waves and grooves that not only helps with breathability but also help provide zoned support, the Novilla Bliss is an all-foam mattress that offers deep compression, so much so that I would definitely recommend it if you suffer from chronic pain.
The only caveat is, because of its all-foam softness, I would not recommend it for those that sleep strictly on their backs and stomachs. It’s much better for side sleepers.

Novilla Bliss Performance
The Novilla Bliss mattress sits on a 4 on the mattress firmness scale giving it a medium-soft feel.
This firmness level is best for those who sleep on their sides. It’s also good for lightweight combination sleepers. A medium-soft firmness level isn’t going to be able to support strict back and stomach sleepers at all.
We rate the Novilla Bliss mattress a 7 out of 10 when it comes to pressure relief.
It’s true, the mattress contains different types of proprietary materials, but it’s best not to expect premium-price memory foam if you get what I mean. This is a budget mattress through and through. For its price point though, it does perform as expected and does offer enough pressure point relief and comfort.
We rate the Novilla Bliss mattress a 4 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
Sad to say that even with the graphite and cooling gel infusions, the memory foam layers still retain quite a bit of heat. I would definitely not recommend it to you if you tend to sleep extremely hot. You’ll be roasting in this one.
We rate the Novilla Bliss mattress a 10 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
No surprises here. All foam-mattresses perform exceedingly well when it comes to deadening any cross mattress movement. I did not feel any motion transfer whatsoever when I tried the mattress out with a partner.
We rate the Novilla Bliss mattress a 6 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
The mattress does not feature any reinforced edges – there really isn’t anything much there if I’m being totally honest. You will find yourself falling off the edge of the bed even when you’re just sitting.

#8. Saatva Classic

Pros
- Suitable for all sleeper types
- Great for couples
- White glove delivery
- Comes in multiple firmness options
Cons
- Can be too pricey for some
- Edge support can be too firm
Why it’s one of the best
There’s no denying that Saatva, despite being one of the earliest entrants in the online mattress space, is still one of the leading brands dominating the market right now and their Saatva Classic mattress is just THAT mattress (‘that’ has replaced ‘it’, keep up).
Handcrafted with premium materials such as gel-infused memory foam, high-gauge, tempered recycled steel coils and a Euro pillow top, the Saatva Classic is also treated with Guardin – a botanical-based antimicrobial treatment that helps keep the nasties away.
The only mattress on this list that features white glove delivery (because yes, the mattress comes to you full-size and not compressed), Saatva is just premium through and through.

Saatva Classic Performance
You get to choose between three different firmness options with the Saatva Classic mattress – medium-soft, medium and medium-firm.
You probably know the drill by now if you’ve come this far down the list but the medium-soft version is best for strict side sleepers while the medium version can accommodate most sleeper types. The medium-firm version is best for strict back and stomach sleepers including those who are heavier-set.
We rate the Saatva Classic a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
The classic combo of memory foam and Euro pillow top provides more than enough contouring and compression without any of the dreaded sinkage, no matter your preferred sleeping position.
We rate the Saatva Classic a 9.5 when it comes to cooling.
This mattress does not contain any actively cooling materials aside from its gel memory foam. Yet that alone is enough to keep heat retention at bay. I slept cool and fresh all throughout the night.
We rate the Saatva Classic an 8.5 when it comes to motion isolation.
There was a tiny bit of bounce when I tried the mattress out with a partner (but it was barely noticeable).
We rate the Saatva Classic a 7.5 when it comes to edge support.
Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing and in this case, it’s the edge support. The reinforced edges are just a little too high and too firm for comfort.
#9. Egohome Black

Egohome Black Performance
There are two firmness options to choose from with the Egohome Black mattress – a medium-soft and a medium-firm.
The medium-soft version is best for side sleepers and combination sleepers while the medium-firm version is best for strict back and stomach sleepers.
Since the Egohome Black is an all-foam mattress, it isn’t able to provide heavier-set sleepers with the extra support they need.
We rate the Egohome Black an 8.5 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
Thanks to its proprietary memory foam layers, the mattress provides contouring and pressure relief that feels just like traditional memory foam.
We rate the Egohome Black a 6.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
True, the mattress does contain a couple of actively cooling materials such as their Graphene cooling cover and gel-infused foam, but it still falls short when it comes to doing away with heat retention.
We rate the Egohome Black a 10 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
I haven’t yet come across an all-foam mattress that did not perform well when it comes to motion isolation and this mattress is no exception. I barely felt any movement when I tried the mattress out with a partner.
We rate the Egohome Black a 6 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
Since it does not contain any reinforced edges, the mattress does not offer much in terms of edge support. You will roll off the edge of the bed if you try to sleep close to it.

Nolah Evolution 15 Performance
The Nolah Evolution 15 comes in three different firmness options – plush, luxury firm and firm.
The plush version is best for strict back sleepers while the luxury firm version can accommodate most sleeper types including combination sleepers. The firm version is best for those who sleep only on their backs or stomachs.
Being a hybrid mattress, the Nolah Evolution 15 can accommodate heavier-set people and is able to provide them with the extra support they need.
We rate the Nolah Evolution 15 a 9.7 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
There’s only one comfort layer in this mattress, yet it’s more than enough to provide contouring and compression for maximum pressure relief no matter the sleeping position.
We rate the Nolah Evolution 15 a 9 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
Aside from the copper-infused foam and cooling cover, the mattress also features air border gussets throughout the perimeter. This allows heat to escape and also provides for better air circulation within the mattress.
We rate the Nolah Evolution 15 a 9.6 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
This mattress performs brilliantly when it comes to deadening any cross mattress movement. I barely felt any motion transfer when I tried the mattress out with a partner.
We rate the Nolah Evolution 15 a 9.2 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
The air border gusset also acts as reinforced edges. This gives it strong and sturdy edge support.
How we chose these mattresses
We picked these mattresses based on a complete list of factors that we believe make up a great late-free mattress. We base them off the following criteria:
- Pressure relief – Everyone has pressure points, so this is important when it comes to choosing the right mattress. We chose mattresses that offer maximum pressure relief.
- Cooling – Sleeping hot is the number one cause of sleeplessness. Choosing mattresses that offer superb cooling capabilities is crucial to getting a good night’s sleep.
- Firmness – Mattress firmness correlates to one’s preferred sleeping position, so we chose mattresses that suit the needs of side sleepers in particular.
- Motion isolation – Picking a mattress that offers good motion isolation is important if you share a bed with a partner. We chose mattresses that are suitable for couples.
- Edge support – Not only does edge support help (and protect) those who prefer sleeping close to the edge of the bed, having a mattress with good edge support also provides you with a wider mattress surface.
- Durability – We chose mattresses that we know will last long and ones that come with reasonable return policies.
Conclusion
Although latex mattresses are pretty popular these days, it’s good to have more than a few latex-free alternatives that those of us who aren’t fans of the material (especially those who suffer from latex allergies) can fall back on.
This list is the culmination of our extensive testing process. These are the brands that we’re certain will provide comfort and support as well as cooling and motion isolation.
How we rate mattresses
