Phenibut is an over-the-counter supplement that is sold for the treatment of anxiety and other related conditions. It’s also commonly used for the treatment of insomnia since it’s a GABA-analogue that promotes sleepiness.

The best brands of Phenibut are:

  1. Solstice Supplements
  2. Nootropics.com

What is Phenibut?

Phenibut is considered a GABA-analogue, meaning that is it structurally similar to the neurotransmitter that plays such an important role in your sleep. In addition to it’s anxiolytic (anxiety-relieving) benefits, Phenibut also increases the amount of dopamine in your brain which makes it mildly stimulating. To put it simply: Phenibut chills you out by reducing your anxiety and also makes you significantly more extroverted and social at the same time.

First discovered and introduced into clinical practice in Russia in the 1960s, Phenibut is widely used to this day by Russians to treat anxiety and fear as well as to improve sleep in psychosomatic or neurotic patients. It’s considered a prescription medication in Eastern Europe and is available under the brand names Anvifen, Fenibut, Bifren and Noofen in Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, and Latvia.

Phenibut is not approved for medical use in the United States or most countries in the European Union. Here in the US it’s sold online as an over-the-counter nutritional supplement that you can legally buy without a doctor’s prescription.

It is considered a controlled substance in Australia, Hungary, and Lithuania so you may want to check your local laws before buying if you live in one of those three countries.

How to use Phenibut for sleep

It’s important to note that – unlike Ashwagandha KSM-66 – Phenibut is not a natural supplement. You can become dependent on it if you don’t dose responsibly.

Phenibut has a delayed onset of 2-4 hours before you start feeling effects, and you won’t feel the peak until 7 hours after taking the capsules. It’s important to start with a low dose if it’s your first time taking Phenibut and wait to see how it affects you before re-dosing.

Follow these steps for your first Phenibut experience:

  1. Take 500mg-1g without food.
  2. Wait. It can take a few hours before you feel the effects, with peak effects felt 7 hours later.
  3. If you still don’t feel the effects after 4 hours then re-dose by taking no more than 500mg at a time.
  4. You’ll feel the effects of Phenibut all day and possibly still feel it tomorrow. Enjoy the best sleep of your life.
  5. Wait at least 2 or 3 days before taking more Phenibut. You can become dependent on the substance and experience intense withdrawal symptoms if you don’t wait a few days in between dosages.
Phenibut will leave you feeling more well-rested after a night of sleep

Solstice Supplements sells their Phenibut in a 60-count bottle of 500mg capsules.

The company claims that their product can improve your mood and communication, give you more restorative sleep, and that it offers cognitive support.

One thing we love about Solstice Supplements is that their capsules are twice as large as most competing brands. Phenibut capsules are generally only 250mg, but Solstice sells them in a 500mg variety so you don’t have to take as many to feel the same effects.
