A sleep experience like no other. That is what the Anti Aging Bed promises, but can they deliver? Launched in November 2019, the Anti Aging Bed sleep system (discount code: sleep5) seeks to elevate the humble mattress to more than just a block of foam and aims to transform how the world sleeps.

We have come to a point in time where science and technology is as intrinsic and basic to our daily lives as eating and breathing. We wake up (usually by an alarm from our smartphones), brush our teeth (with that fancy new electric toothbrush); place a pod of caramel apple spice into our nespressos or something similar, preferably Italian; spread our marmites/nutellas/strawberry jams thickly on buttered bread toasted in our vintage looking toasters that lets us control how crisp we want your bread to be (I prefer mine almost-but-not-quite scorched);  drive our fuel efficient cars and go to work in solar powered buildings.

Technology is a wonderful thing and without it, we probably wouldn’t have the slightest chance to survive a Groundhog Day/Black Mirror mashup that is also known as 2020. Having said that, as it always is with everything else in life, technology can also be a very bad thing. Electromagnetic frequencies, or EMF, is present in everything that requires a plug. And by now, almost everyone knows that constant exposure to EMF (think xrays, tanning booths, wifi, microwaves, television, and yes, mobile phones plus so much more)  can be detrimental to one’s health. (And if you don’t, I am here to tell you that it is and that it is scientifically proven, thank you very much. And yes, it is that same EMF that you hear of every so often on ghost hunting documentaries). Couple that with the numerous and sometimes questionable things we ingest on a daily basis then we have the perfect recipe for a very unhealthy you and me.

But a bed that can cancel out or at the very least, lessen the negative effects of the world around us? If I had heard about the Anti Aging Bed a few years ago, I would have probably dismissed it as some nerdy rich person’s pipe dream.

Sure, mattresses are an extremely important commodity and always have been since time immemorial. No one wants to lay their heads (and bodies, of course) on hard, uncomfortable surfaces but we sure have come a long, long way from hay bales (hit the hay, anyone?) and beds that double as dining tables. From hay to cotton to box springs to water to foam to air and now, a mattress that utilizes Nanobionic Technology. Yep, you read that right. Nano Technology.

Straight outta Tony Stark’s lab

Think of John Baxter as a real life,  dialed down (way dialed down) version of Tony Stark. Founder and developer of the Anti Aging Bed, John and his team sought to create a ‘new category of sleep that could change all the others’. This labor of love and hard work was 5 long years in the making which involved hours upon hours of research and development on technology implementation.

Now, I am not here to put you to sleep (wait a second…) with the technicalities and intricacies of explaining the whats and the whens and the hows of nanobionic technology but simply put, nanobionic technology lets you recycle, reuse and enhance the energy emitted by your own body. Your body (if you are an average human), at rest, produces around 100 watts of energy at any given time. In the case of short bursts of energy, such as sprinting, some humans can even output as much as 2000 watts (cit. source)!

Nanobionic, as it will henceforth be known (because well, say nanobionic technology quickly for 5 times), is a soft coating made of far infrared emitting minerals that can be applied to any type of surface such as clothing, bedding, foam, leather or textile product. It now has been utilized in various fields such as the military (bulletproof vests), fashion and textiles, sports (from clothing to sports equipment such as tennis balls), healthcare (humans and animals alike), skincare and of course, bedding and furniture.

Enter the Anti Aging Bed. The Anti Aging Bed is a patented sleep system that implements 7 core technologies.

  1. Neutralize free radicals – The Anti Aging Bed reduces oxidative stress by repairing your free radical damage statically and assisting the body in the form of accelerated repair and regeneration. Clinical studies have been conducted and reports have shown that staying within the top 1% of the mattress cover increases blood flow viscosity and reduces inflammation.
  2. FDA determined Far Infrared Technology – Within minutes of laying on the Anti Aging Bed, your own body heat will reflect gentle, penetrating waves of far infrared which promotes faster recovery and an increase in general wellness which in turn makes for a restful night’s sleep. Remember the Nanobionic Tech that we spoke about earlier? This is it. The Big Kahuna. The Moneymaker. The closing argument.
  3. EMF shielding technology – The Anti Aging Bed comes with a feature that helps you shield yourself from unwanted or harmful electromagnetic frequencies – from cell towers to 5G to wifi and yes, that pesky little mobile phone you can’t seem to let go of even when it’s time for bed. Think of it as a nice little extra perk: keeping your phone away from you whilst you ready yourself for sleep is a benefit in and of itself. Also, may or may not keep away the ghosts. Think of it.
  4. 100% Pure Nano Silver technology – Many well documented clinical trials prove that silver is antibacterial, antimicrobial, anti-odor and anti virus. Silver is a natural mineral that can supercharge the immune system. In hospitals today, silver is used in treating wounds, destroying pathogenic microbes and combatting dangerous viruses. Bonus points for keeping away the vampires.
  5. Grounding Technology – Only the Anti Aging Bed uses an Ion Mound resistor which regulates the constant flow of negatively charged electrons and ions onto the bed. It removes the unwanted free radicals or static charge from the body and it is a safety regulator between you and the ground. Do take note that it must be plugged in for it to work.
  6. Conductivity Cooling Technology – Your body heat is spread to various areas of the mattress for heat dissipation. One of the most common reasons that one is unable to sleep comes down to one simple thing – you’re too hot and not the good kind. The Anti Aging Bed can fix that, linen sheets optional.
  7. Sustainable Promise – Natural non synthetic fibers and foam make up 20% of the Anti Aging Bed whilst they are committed to developing and growing their product line to include a 100% organic mattress. Watch this space.

Sleep like a King

Not too long ago, being a little too particular about mattresses can be classed as frivolous or as the kids like to say, ‘first world problems y’all.’ And while, I sometimes may be inclined to agree, grandma’s soul trapped in a 30 something body that I really am, where you lay your head really does make a difference. Have you ever heard of the fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen called “The Princess and The pea”? It tells of a story of a Prince looking to find a real Princess. He searched high and low and found no one, not one real Princess. One stormy night, a young woman knocks on the door of his castle, looking like a drowned rat (this is my version so beat it). She claims to be a real Princess and asks for a night’s lodging. The Queen, as all fairytale queens are, decided to test her by placing a single pea on top of the bed; covered it with twenty mattresses and twenty eiderdown quilts, thinking that only a real Princess will be able to feel the pea. Long story short, she did feel the pea and the Prince got a real Princess after all and they lived happily ever after. Why am I telling you a bedtime story? Well, we are all living out our stories in this big, bad, beautiful world, fairytale-like or not. We are the Kings and Queens, the Princes and Princesses of our domains, no matter how small these “kingdoms” may be and no matter where we fall in the economic class system. While we may not feel a pea or a watermelon for that matter underneath twenty mattresses, we do, however, deserve a mattress fit for a Queen.
